Man, I'm gonna pay you quadruple that amount! I thought for a while there I was going to have to retrofit an ancient MK1 aluminum manifold onto this motor! Are you looking for any parts for your rig? I have a few boxes of MK1 parts and a few MK3 parts and I may have what you need.

Re: Want to buy: Air cleaner housing ?1986 Jetta Non turbo 068129607D

I'll take it for the price you name! I'm on my knees begging for these parts at this point. Do you have the little deal that attaches to the fender well, where the intake hose gets somehow inserted into the fender well? This car never had one so I'm not sure what it looks like. I will check the manu...

Thank you for all your efforts Fatmobile. The elbow is kind of a key component here. I will check a few more sources before purchasing. And I may choose to go back to an MK1 style of intake manifold (since those are pleniful around here). Thanks again for going out of your way. J. Stewart

Re: Want to buy: Air cleaner housing ?1986 Jetta Non turbo 068129607D

OK, thanks. I am still in need of the parts, so whatever you can get..... I suppose as a last resort I could remove this manifold and bolt on an A1 MK1 diesel manifold. I have a couple of those lying around, to include the housing and the snorkel. But I would much rather go with the existing set up.

Thanks. Here is a link to the ebay auction to give you an idea what the 90 degree tube looks like (they call it a snorkel).

Re: Want to buy: Air cleaner housing ?1986 Jetta Non turbo 068129607D

Thanks Fat mobile, but do you also have that 90 degree elbow? and the fitting that crams into the wheel well? This car is totally missing both of those parts. I think I saw one on ebay but the guy was asking quite a bit for it. Anyway, sure I would be interested in the cover with the two clamps. Nam...

Want to buy: Air cleaner housing ?1986 Jetta Non turbo 068129607D

I honestly don't know what year model this particular air cleaner housing was used on. I have it on a motor that I assembled with a mismash of parts. IMG_1989resized800x600.jpg I need the clamps that hold it closed. I also need the plastic intake elbow and flexible hose that leads over to the wheel ...

Re: Installed used cam - now I have no compression. Please help

OK, thanks for all the replies. Here's the follow up: I had reached the end of my rope with this cylinder head, so I took it off and brought it to the local head shop. The technician told me that three (3) of the lifters were stuck and were not decompressing. He said he put one or more of them in a ...

Re: Installed used cam - now I have no compression. Please help

OK, thanks for the replies. I measured the base circle and lobe height on the two cams involved and they both appeared similar. But I'm using a plastic micrometer, and I would not be able to tell if it was only a few thousandths difference. I'm going to try to slip a feeler gauge under the lobes - w...

Installed used cam - now I have no compression. Please help

This is a mid '80s 1.6 liter naturally aspirated diesel engine. It has the hydraulic lifters. I was going to adjust the injection timing this morning. I had trouble getting the cam sprocket loosened. Should have used a puller, but like an idiot, I gave it a good rap with a hammer, using an old timin...

Re: Electrical help involving starter circuit

not sure if there is a relay but there's a reasonable chance the ignition switch burned out. Also don't know if that line is fused or not. DO you have the Bentley VW manual or something with the schematic? Thanks. Yeah, I have the Bentley, but I'm not sure if I know what I'm looking at when I study...

Electrical help involving starter circuit

I'm having an electrical problem involving the starter circuit on my 1991 diesel Jetta. A couple of years ago the ignition switch stopped working - I turned the key to the "on" position and all the lights on the dash would illuminated and the glow plugs would energize, but when I advanced ...

WTB: Upper timing cover for 1991 Jetta diesel

I'm nearing the end of my diesel conversion project. I've discovered that I do not have the upper half of the timing cover. This is the shroud that covers the timing belt and cogs. I'll need one from an MK2 MKII second generation Volkswagen diesel engine. 1986 - 1992 This is the plastic cover that i...

Re: Need some help with 5 speed

OK, I checked all my boxes of parts and I found two of the 7-1/4 inch rods and two of the 10 inch rods. One of the 7-1/4 inchers has the weight in the middle of it. Which one do you want and what is your mailing address? PM me.

Re: Need some help with 5 speed

I have one of those rods! But I have to search through about fifty boxes to find one. Will see if I can locate it this weekend.
