Everything I've read indicates that most manufacturers did not start using rubber that would compatible with bio until about 1993 or so. So yeah, they may, or may not start weeping, which means I have been no help at all!

anything made after about 1993 should be ok with biodiesel. On the off chance you do find your fuel lines starting to leak, you can replace them with viton lines for under $100.

I don't know an exact amount of time, but what I have read on other forums, the vegetable oil will keep somewhat longer than finished biodiesel will. Both will last quite a while though, many months.

If it is unused oil there shouldn't be any need to dewater it. The water gets introduced from the foods that get fried in the oil.

What I recently read, and will try shortly, is using a submersible aquarium heater (300W) to heat the oil in a 55 gallon drum to 90F. Do that and let it sit a couple of days. Heating the oil makes it thinner, making it thinner allows the water droplets to sink more readily.

I currently get mine from a local dragstrip, you can also try bulk fuel suppliers if you want to purchase by the drum. Cost per gallon goes down by about half if you buy a drum.

I just bought a 1993 Chev C3500 with a 6.5TD, once I start making the homebrew I'll let you know how it goes.

All depends on how much running around you want to do. I was able to pick up all the parts for about the same price, just saved on the shipping. If you feel the shipping cost is equal to the cost of your time then go for the kit.

Almost there...

Just got a couple free 55 gallon HDPE barrels and built a standpipe wash tank. Appleseed processor is ready to go, just have to source some oil!

Also just added to the diesel fleet, a 1993 Chevy C3500 with a 6.5TD. Should be much easier to haul stuff with that instead of the bunny...

The processor is now done and ready to go, the barrells for the wash tank and storage will be available next week. Now I just have to hit the bricks and source some WVO!!

Excellent site..

Still putting together my Appleseed reactor, have all the plumbing, just have a little trouble sourcing a used water heater that doesn't leak.

BTW- if you are serious about making bio-d and haven't bought Mark's book yet, do it!

I've seen alot of sources that state there is a gret deal of misinformation and plain bad science in Tickell's book. I've been relying more on sources such as bidieselnow.com, localb100.com, and the biodieselbasics group on yahoo. I also just purchased Girl Mark's book through the localb100 site. Ex...

I'm on the other end of the country, but here petro diesel is about $2.69 per and biodiesel is $3.50. If I were to join the local biodiesel co-op then that would drop to $1.75. I'm gathering pieces to build a processor to start making homebrew.

Wow, I just checked out a few different marine water heaters...those look PERFECT for a WVO setup. Insulated tank, nice inlet/outlet for the WVO, heat exchanger already built in..nice. If you can find a way to convert the heating elements to run on 12V it would be super-perfect. Definitely cost proh...
