I saw that episode---kinda interesting. Way different routing of the exhaust. That must be loud as hell. I can't remember if it is a 3 cyl or really small 4 cyl.----at work we have these little generators/light units that have 3 cyl Kobota diesels, neat little engines. I haven't researched anything ...

It doesn't seem to change around corners, I think it actually tones down a bit(doesn't shimmy as much). I was also thinking that one of the balance weights may have fallen off of one of the rims, I'll have to inspect to see if that is the case. I have a newer ball joint on the drivers side, the pass...

slight shimmy
I have been noticing a slight shimmy(for lack of a better word) on my 81 Rabbit lately. It is not too bad, just enough for me to notice it. I tried moving the tires around, front to back, front drivers to the rear passenger, etc, that didn't seem to make a difference. It only happens from about 10mp...

I had good luck pulling it from the bottom, with a little help from my wife and a furniture dolley and some well placed 2x4s. I just pulled the front bumper up with a cherry picker, and eased it out. I think it took us maybe an hour and a half, definitely under 2 hours. As for the exhaust clamps, I ...

I use a digital christmas light timer hooked to my magnetic oil pan heater and my block heater. I just have to remember to pull it off before I leave for work. It works slick, even at -20F, the engine pops right off. That heater that attaches magnetically to the oil pan get pretty darn hot, almost t...

I did an engine swap last fall, it was just me, with a little help from the wife. I used my cherry picker to lift the car and sneak the engine/tranny out the bottom. I used furniture dollies and some stategically placed 2x4s and some ratchet straps to hold the eng/trans onto the dollies. I wrapped a...

I did some follow-up on my rad fan, sure enough, when I have my heater fan on and it is in defrost, the rad fan starts humming. So I guess if I'm in a traffic jam and I see my temp gauge creeping up, I'll just turn my heater fan on. This vehicle is new to me, and I don't think I experienced that wit...

Thats exactly what I was thinking Fats----it seems like the only time my temp gauge starts climbing a little bit is when I'm standing in traffic and it is 85 and humid. I have one of those backlit rocker switches, I'm thinking I might use that. So I will have no worries when waiting for the stopligh...

After some searching, I got some ideas-----the car came with AC, but I deleted it. So, I do know that I keep the control lever for the heater in defrost most if not all of the time. I didn't take out any wires for the AC, so I bet that when it is in defrost, the rad fan thinks the AC is on, so it tu...

Rad fan always(seems like it) on
Since it has been getting warmer, I have been noting that the radiator fan comes on when the engine is stone cold while turning the key. It is almost like the PO wired it "backwards" . For instance, I would drive across town, the temp normal(190F), and get home, and shut off the car. No ra...

I put a cork gasket on mine, same thing----10 miles and about 2 quarts of oil lost. So I decided to put the metal reinforced rubber one piece on it. Worth every dime. I think I paid $14 for it. Did not leak once. I also used the gasket sealer called Great Stuff, works incredible(at least for me). Gr...
