I would not have thought so either, but drove it quite a bit after the repair and was very happy with the stability of the pressure. Sold the car now to folks who have a great deal of experience with VW diesels, so happy to see it has a good home.
All out of the VW vehicles now and so will leave ...

Re: oil pressure concern
Well, found a hole had developed in the oil return line from the turbo to the oil pan. Fixed that and the oil pressure seems to hold quite well. The oil drip from the hole has been increasing over the past few weeks, and coincides with the pressure loss. The hole was hidden behind part of the clamp ...

Re: oil pressure concern
Thank you for that. I pulled the vacuum pump and found a bit of back/forth movement on the shaft, and just a tiny bit of movement side to side. It is most likely a problem.

Re: oil pressure concern
Well, if the intermediate shaft bearings are indeed the problem, and it looks likely to be so, then that is most likely the end of this motor. Those bearings are pretty scarce. Does not look like Jack even has them. Dang. Just when I was trying to sell this thing. Karma?

oil pressure concern
The car is a 1990 Jetta with a 1.6l td, 5 spd. Power is real good, burns very modest oil (though it does leak, as all us old things do from time to time). Oil pump is brand spanking new.

Instrument cluster
Need one to fit a 1981 VW rabbit diesel pickup. Would like one with the tach, but not vital.

Do you have an instrument cluster that would fit my 1981 diesel rabbit pickup?

It's alive! Thanks to the guidance here and some patient study, the little truck runs great. Vince Waldon's site on doing the timing was invaluable.

Re: IP flow question
More information.
This pump is for a 1.6 TD; found the numbers online.
The extra 'unit' on the side must be some kind of secondary fuel part. I don't think it hurts to not use it, but just wondered if not using it affects the performance of the IP at all. The motor in question is not a turbo'ed ...

IP flow question
I am working on an MF motor with an injection pump that I think came from an ecodiesel car. It is a different looking IP from any other I have seen before. It has the saucer top of a turbo IP, but has extra unit (about 2" long and 1" in diameter) at the base of the IP, on the belt end. On one end ...

Re: Fuel tank question
Thank you. I did use a hole cam to look inside the tank and saw it, but did not know if it was removable. Once removed, how the heck would a person put it back ? Pretty screwy way to do screening. It looked fine, though, so not going to worry about it.

Fuel tank question
I removed the fuel tank from the pickup I am working on so it could be cleaned, inspected, and rust-proof painted. Since I cannot be sure the quality of fuel used previously, I am concerned about plugging of any screens or valves that may be present inside the tank. Is this anything to be concerned ...

Re: Smoky old IP
Well darn, this motor has other problems. The intermediate shaft will not turn freely; in fact, I have to use a ratchet to turn it! There are probably other things going on in this thin that I haven't found yet, so unless someone else wants a project, this little pickup is going to the wrecker. Don ...
