Re: eco to td... unstopable vibration

I believe that Hagar ran the pressure line that senses boost (from the intake manifold?) into the cabin where he had a simple on-off valve (like you have for air/water/etc. - nothing special). From here he ran the line to the LDA. So he could run in "Eco" mode with the valve off (no pressu...

Re: eco diesel engone bay question

Here it is - same website different page - about halfway down: http://www.oocities.org/vwecodiesel/overview.htm "And perhaps to make it more attractive to potential buyers, most (or all?) ECOdiesels were sold "fully loaded", equipped with Option Package Q8, which consisted of air cond...

Re: eco diesel engone bay question

Hmmmmm. Can't find that reference now - maybe I imagined it.

Here is a pretty good rundown of the equipment - http://www.oocities.org/vwecodiesel/features.htm

I guess mine is optioned to the hilt - A/C, cruise, crank moonroof. Not sure about the 6 speakers yet.

Re: eco diesel engone bay question

From what I understand (have read) all Eco Jetta's came with a standard option package. Manual trans, cruise, A/C, moonroof, crank windows, lacking the trip computer and tach unfortunately.

Nice work. I just received a mass email from a Mercedes parts supplier that I used once. They are now making and selling injector testers (made from a bottle jack) that look awfully familiar! I believe they are asking $200.

I hope they've talked to their lawyers about this.

The speedo on my caddy was way off when I got it. The odo was also broke with the classic stripped nylon gear. This type of speedo is indeed a magnetic coupled type - so there's always slippage. Not knowing any better how to fix it, I actually pulled the needle off the shaft and pushed it back on a ...

GPS works as the Rabbit runs. So it knows speed and distance no matter how many turns you make. Just got my first one. Pretty cool. I bought a baseline unit, no maps or anything, partially for verifying ODOs and speedos. Basic units do not have a magnetic compass, but determine compass bearing only ...

That commutator looks rough. For starters (?!?) you've got crap in between the copper pieces. These need to be electrically insulated from each other. That's likely a mixture of carbon/copper in there which is certainly a good conductor and likely explains part of the slow speed - your starter was k...

Q-man is right. Wrapping turns of a smaller wire around a larger wire to generate voltage only works where current is changing over time - meaning AC, but not DC. People have been known to steal power from the power company by doing this - wrapping a bunch of turns of wire around the high voltage wi...

On my 81, I disconnected the wire from the firewall fuse to glowplug #4. The wire is still taped to the wire bundle, with the ends hanging loose. (Red wire with white stripe.) From the right side of the firewall fuse I ran a wire into the cab to my ammeter. http://i278.photobucket.com/albums/kk85/ea...

I forgot on my 1981 11mm motor until about 2,500 miles, causing the cooling system to be pressurized, thus blowing up my new $90 heater core. Torquing down to 66 ft/lb and then some seems to have sealed 'er up.

Lots of great info here. Just getting around to putting my tester together now. Got a new 4 ton jack from Harbor Freight - about $12. Scored a 3K PSI gauge on Ebay for about $15 delivered. It's not as big as Andrew's but we all can't sport 8.5". On a metal lathe I machined a plug that is a snug...

The wires for the park/turn/tail lights go through the hazard switch itself. I've had my switch apart several times and it's pretty complicated in there with all the little contacts that slide around. Why the Germans did it this way is beyond me. I can't comment on your particular problem but I can ...
