I use polyethylene. You can get it at Lowes by the foot, a quarter's worth should be all ya need. Other people go w/ other more expensive stuff since it can take the heat needed for VO, but this stuff should be fine for ULSD/biodiesel.

I've read that sometimes those tools don't work too well, and IME a small screw driver isn't springy enough and can break the plastic tines. Or maybe I'm just a DIY fanatic.... :)

I'm not sure what you mean. I know that you can trim/use the metal from old wiper blades to undo the connections if ya just wanna switch 'em around, but as for replacing the wire terminals and/or plastic bits I haven't a clue.

Just don't do GL-5 alone, it doesn't supersede GL-4 no matter what the people at the parts store say.

Awesome tip tawney! Am I correct in assuming that the #4-32 thread is common for the dial indicator tip? Even if it isn't I can just remove the tip and figure the needed thread/diameter from it. Thanks a bunch!

El cheapo timing tools

Alright, so far I have found that a 3" brass Stanley door hinge can be used in the place of VW tool 2064 (camshaft lock), a 11mm deep socket is pretty much what VW 2065a is, and the tensioner can be adjusted with a couple of nails or a set of $2 snap ring pliers. So, the only thing left is the ...

Temp guage.

Will a water temp sender/gauge work w/ VO, or does it have to be an oil temp sender/gauge?

Well, you can do it however you want and make it work, but I was coming from the perspective of keeping it a legally (according to the National Electrical Code -NEC rules) installed electrical system and also keeping the control location inside your house, garage, or basement and perminantly instal...

So ya just splice it inline into a cheap extension cable Actually, if you wire a standard dimmer switch to power a duplex receptacle, you can then plug in an extension cord to this "dimmed" receptacle and your installation is nice and weather tight, since it's all inside. The only other i...

I can just go through the j-yard ($2 admission) popping valve covers next time and hopefully snag a few for free. Way better than $1+ from (removed by moderator) and who knows how much from a dealer. They only charge/check for larger parts, so I'm sure I can stick a few in my wallet or something. :)
