Re: '82 VW Pickup 1.6 Speedometer is Busted
I forgot to tell you to put that connector I sent with it into the top right space in the cluster plug, splice it to a longer piece of wire that will reach through the firewall to the glow plug buss. In order for the extra light to work,.. but you probably got it figured out. Hi Fats, Thanks, I did...

Re: '82 VW Pickup 1.6 Speedometer is Busted
Hello I replaced my cluster a year ago but it seems that might not be your problem. It might just be the speedo cable. Here is how I tested my cluster. I took two tooth picks and chucked them into a cordless drill. Stuck the picks into the back of the cluster where the speedo cable goes and ran it....

Re: Gauges and parts
I haven't put them in the car to see if they work yet. Figured I'd wait until it sells. I'll put one in the Bronze Rabbit and take it to town. It's set up the same way with the extra light. I'll give you a 1 year warranty on the speedo/odo and gauges and the indicator lights,.. well everthing but t...

Re: Gauges and parts
Your proposal for an entire unit sounds good to me. I hate to ask but my wife insists I ask if the unit works, both speedometer and odometer? After the heater saga earlier this year, which works great now btw, she's on the ragged edge about old diesels, until she reallizes the good fuel mileage of c...

Re: '82 VW Pickup 1.6 Speedometer is Busted
This is a new one. Usually they just stop working and the needle settles. I do have a couple of Rabbit cluters for sale in the classifieds. They've been for sale for awhile with no hits so I'd lower the price to $75 shipped. Or I could look through the pile and find a single working speedometer to ...

'82 VW Pickup 1.6 Speedometer is Busted
Driving the other night all of a sudden my speedometer went click-clickety and the speedo needle stuck at 85 mph indicated. My old 1.6 barely maintains 55 going up this mountain hill. Anyway, the odometer also quit registering. Once the needle stuck no more noise. I stopped and the needle remained a...

Re: Heater Core Leaking majorly--'81 VW PickUp w/1.6n/a--5sp
This caddy never had A/C. Does that mean it's a non-AC car or the AC doesn't work? My RIP old blue post in the project fora has the quick (cut a hole in the box) cure if it's an AC car. It a non-A/C Pickup, no brackets, pulleys, etc. for any A/C. I knew the original owner since we were doing air-co...

Re: Heater Core Leaking majorly--'81 VW PickUp w/1.6n/a--5sp
Thanks for replies bscutt and damac. Ya, there's no easy way, so I started slogging thru it this afternoon.
Has anyone ever tried one of those electric heaters like they use in RVs and such, up around 300 t0 600+or - watts or so? Would need a strong alternator and battery I'd guess.

Heater Core Leaking majorly--'81 VW PickUp w/1.6n/a--5spd.
This caddy never had A/C. Looks like access to core is on left side of heater box, but pedals seem to be in the way.
What is best approach to replace with new core?
Searched the site and this chore looks daunting to say the least.
Thanks

Re: '82 Rabbit 1.6 n/a Headlight adjuster screw plastic thin
82, TD, and Q-Man, Thank you for the very helpful solutions. Just getting back to Dieseling after rehab for a new prosthesis on left leg below knee. Slow but coming along. Getting better at using clutch, no bad pain, just hard to instinctively hit the darned thing with no feeling down there. :) Fort...

'82 Rabbit 1.6 n/a Headlight adjuster screw plastic things?
I'm not sure what they're called. They are the plastic or nylon(????) things that the alignment screws for headlights go into. I can't find any locally. Anyone know where to get them? Please?
This not a buy/sell post. It is an information seeking request.
Thanks.

Re: starter issues
Sorry I asked. Harry, As always you have the patience of an ice cream in the sun. I had also PM'd you with further help... Actually I think I am reasonably patient, in fact I am a patient. February 10 was my 72nd birthday. My surgeon, on the 10th, helped me celebrate by removing my left leg...

Re: starter issues
Hi texcl, I've got an '81 Dasher wagon 1.6 n/a and the starters about had it, drags bad and turns slow, battery is good and redid connectors. Dasher diesel starter is bigger unit than gas unit isn't it? About how much did your new or rebuilt starter cost? Thanks A Quantum/Dasher diesel starter is b...
