Not directly answering your question but I bought a replacement for my cooler from Jack VW diesel parts.com.

Dealer wanted 190 bucks and Jack got OEM one for 75. Nice new unit!

I wish some entrepreneurial VW guy (Jack you listening? ;) ) would sell pre-pressed mounts. All you need is a press frame, a big bottle jack, two mandrels, and a couple of spare brackets. I assume you've checked to make sure that it isn't the oil cooler that's leaking. Would I need a cooling system pressure tester for that? I was just planning on doing the head gasket and the cooler.
