1Y engine conversion

Has anyone fitted a 1Y engine from a seat toledo into a vanagon. The engine is 1.9N/A and about 68BHP - wandered if anyone has comments on how easy the conversion is.

Cheers.

Cheers.

Glow plug relay question

If you are familiar with the glow plug relay then please try and help - I have discovered that my relay doesn't have a T terminal that should be attached to the temp sensor and cut the time if the engine is already hot, so I have ordered a new relay and will sort this out - my question is whether or...

Thanks guys - I will put the new t-stat in as it is only cheap, and see what happens. Libbybapa, I agree now that the gauge must be wrong (or wiring) because everything now leads to that I have a new one on the way. Stopping, it is snowing one day over here and the next it is lovely spring sunshine ...

Hi stopping, I didn't think that the t-stat would go in backwards. There isn't enough room in the elbow of the pipe. Anyway, the expansion tank is the highest point in the engine bay. I was amazed that the coolant temperature went from 91 to 57 without the t-stat. I thought that by removing it I was...

just taken her out for a spin to do tests and here goes - the gauge needle takes 10mins to get to the middle, it stays there or even goes down a bit if I am going fast (lots of air over radiator) stopped somewhere and removed expansion tank cap and measured temperature - 57max. I assume this is not ...

Coolant probs - solved (for now anyway)

Today I swapped the hoses back to the stock set up (hot going in at the bottom of rad) removed the thermostat and bled the system really carefully - which I had done anyway. The coolant gauge takes about 5mins longer to get to the middle without the t-stat in place, but IT STAYS THERE!!!!! Hooray......

here we go - I ran her up to temp and checked all the pipes for heat whilst watching the guage in the dash and testing the coolant temp with a thermometer in the expansion tank. With the gauge needle in the middle, the temp of coolant was 80 - 85 deg C and with the gague needle right at the top wher...

Cheers Andrew, I will get to the bottom of this then report back.... ps. I haven't switched them back from stock yet, partly because I have been tackling other projects (like shiny new alloy wheel fitments etc) but mainly because the gauge, although still at the top, reads slightly better than it di...

Thought of a test - I have mapped out my coolant system and the path via the oil cooler and back to the thermostat side of the pump only has flow once the t-stat is opened. This circuit piggy-backs into the pipe coming back from the radiator - so, if after warming, this circuit gets hot but the pipe...

yes, I will do this, although - as I said - I have tested the thermostat and it was fine in a pan of boiling water - having taken the pump, t-stat and radiator off before, I would have to disagree with which was quicker - I dropped the rad out in about 5 minutes, but taking the pump pulley and fiddl...

ok - thanks for all your advice - tomorrow I will check the belt and if ok check the bearings in the water pump and probably order a new T-stat anyway, but I'm still confused at how the pipe coming from the head to the rad is red hot and the one coming back from the rad to the pump is stone cold - t...
