Re: More Diesel Adventures and HOLY SH*T THE BOARD IS BACK UP!

Hey! Glad to see you are still active with the forum and with VW diesels. What cars are you driving? Or working on? Did you ever build your successfully build your 1.7 engine ?? If you have a spare hose I'd certainly buy it off of you. I was looking into making them with silicone parts but finding o...

More Diesel Adventures and HOLY SH*T THE BOARD IS BACK UP!

Just saw that this was back online via the VWdiesel.net board. I was just lamenting yesterday about how sad it was to lose such a treasure trove of info after vwdieselparts.com went down. Especially HAGAR's thread, and all the specific info that I always found so useful. This forum was instrumental ...

Re: Head warped .014" - bake it or mill it?

If I CAN use the head I will. But for now I’ll wait. . And yeah I’m diving into a wagon project. Been wanting to do this for YEARS. saw some real world examples online and felt inspired. Ended up finding a good donor golf and already cut off what I needed. Would a post chronicling my build be suitab...

Re: Head warped .014" - bake it or mill it?

Yeah there aren't any shops around that seem to want to mess with heating heads up in philly. I went to the old timer VW mechanic and he said he knows of NO machine shops that will bake, and says even getting them surfaced is a pain because of the precombustion chambers. He did give me some words of...

Re: Head warped .014" - bake it or mill it?

Hey folks! Long time no post. I’m Revisiting this topic after having run my engine build for nearly 60,000 miles. Quick recap: i used a block with the extra drain hole plugged, And used my mechanical lifter head with the water jacket hole plugged with epoxy. Engine runs strong and efficient. The onl...

Re: Deleting A/C on a 91' diesel jetta 1.6L

Prairieview what is the website address you speak of? Moving on... some more sleuthing and I think I found the part I was looking for. Just took a lot of persistence and creative search queries to source it. Only possible issue is that both the inner and outer v-belt grooves are 13mm, as opposed to ...

Re: Deleting A/C on a 91' diesel jetta 1.6L

Is this the kind of pulley I'm looking for? Not sure if the bore size is the same as my bosch alternator... the groove width would work with the crank pulley belt. The offset might be a few mm off though. I've had a hard time sourcing this part. Any tips or info on where to find this would be apprec...

Re: Deleting A/C on a 91' diesel jetta 1.6L

Just wanted to clarify... in the pictures from your post on the other topic - http://www.vwdieselparts.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=7018&hilit= - you show two slotted brackets, a curved slotted piece with adjustment gear teeth and a straight slotted piece. I know the geared adjustment brack...

Re: Deleting A/C on a 91' diesel jetta 1.6L

bumping this post! Both the AC compressor bolts broke off inside their cast iron bracket. The front adjustment bolts are still holding tight, but the compressor is still flopping around and not in its proper place. Since my AC system has never worked, I'm ready to ditch it, and I'd love to rehash th...

WTB: Wiper arm (pass. side) 1985-89

My wiper arm just snapped at the base from the cold. I need to replace it ASAP but I'd rather not spend $50 on a new one. Reply here if you can help me, thanks!

Coolant temperature gauge problem + electrical issues

Hey all - happy new year! Still chuggin along in my old Jetta. I've put 26,000 miles on it since rebuild - it's amazing how well it's done since I put the thing back together 2 and a half years ago! Anyway, so I've had bizarre issues with my coolant temperature gauge that I couldn't even begin to un...

Fresh load of spare parts posted to Ebay

Heads up: I just posted a bunch of parts to ebay, all with no reserve. I tried to set opening bid and buy it now prices fairly. There's a crankshaft, intermediate shaft, a handful of injectors, brackets, injector line sets, a cam sprocket, oil cooler and lines, and a handful of other parts. Here's a...

Still flyin' high...

Haven't been on here in a while, but guess that could be considered a good thing? It's been almost two years since I finished rebuilding my 1.6D and, even though I've only put 17,000 miles on it since then, I can happily report that she's been truckin' along just fine. Just made it back to Philly fr...

quality control arm bushing options

My rear bushings (the doughnut ones) are worn out after only 3 years. I'd like to replace them with better quality bushings - does that mean urethane? I'd love suggestions for bushings that aren't crap, and where to buy them. I already bought and returned a red urethane set because I thought they wo...
