WTB: Pump resealing service

I have an injection pump ('82 non-turbo) and a reseal kit I'd like to send to someone to reseal for me (not a complete rebuild, no calibration, just the seals). Please reply here or PM me or email me at tylernt@gmail.com if you're interested.

Thanks.

Re: The valve shim exchange thread!

Well that's an unfortunate situation to be sure. 2.85 is still the thinnest I'm aware of commercially. You'll need to find a shop with a surface grinder, as hardened shims would be quite difficult to cut. As for running it as is, letting the intake valves stay open will make you lose a lot of compre...

I'm with Tyler, RTV that puppy.

Surface prep is critical, clean all traces of gear lube with alcohol or acetone first.

Re: 1981 1.6D rabbit freshening

New pump on purchased from here timed the way Jack said and it runs great but no power at all. It is a 1.5 with an FN transmission 5 spd. it is timed at 1.01 per instructions. I know this car can do a little more When you figure it out I'd like to know. The 1.6 turbo I put in my Jetta couldn't go a...

Re: 3.5yr rebuild project done, but gutless... help?

Ok, I got the smoke screw turned up (an adventure in itself, it seems it had a dab of JB-Weld holding it on) to where I get a nice gray haze when I get on the throttle. And the car now accelerates like I would expect my Rabbit to do, if it had an extra 500 pounds and a taller final drive. I didn't d...

Re: 3.5yr rebuild project done, but gutless... help?

Pic is of my "finished" car. I did get some bubbles in my fuel supply hoses, so I added clamps there, but the return and leak-off seem to be ok without clamps. I get a few bubbles a while after shut off and for a bit right after startup, but none after it's been running for a while. The ho...

Re: 3.5yr rebuild project done, but gutless... help?

First off, let me say thanks for all the advice. I did read all of it and I appreciate the help. :) Ok, so today I took the transfer pump out of the tank. I discovered two things: one, it's not an impediment to fuel flow. I can blow (and even suck, yuck) through it no problem; two, it doesn't pump a...

Re: 3.5yr rebuild project done, but gutless... help?

Well I just got back from adding Iso-Heet and filling up with diesel. No change. So I guess I will be ripping out that fuel pump and cranking up the max fuel screw.

I remember the machinist was a bit freaked out when he saw how tight the factory cylinder-piston clearance spec was.

Tomorrow I'm going to add some red bottle "Iso-Heet" to help mop up any water and top up with diesel to see where that gets me...

Not sure. Do you think the pressure is over-advancing the timing in the IP?

Re: 3.5yr rebuild project done, but gutless... help?

Did you remove the gasoline pump from inside the tank? I kept it, the glow plug relay turns that circuit on so it can prime the IP if necessary. I don't think fuel flow is an issue as I have clear fuel lines and the first time I started it up, I saw the IP sucking fuel way faster than I ever would ...

Re: 3.5yr rebuild project done, but gutless... help?

Good question, there's 5 gallons of fresh diesel in it. The car started life as a gas car until I converted it to diesel... ohhh, say, I probably didn't get all the gas out of the bottom of the tank. Old, nasty, stale, stinky gas, which probably had some water in it to boot. Dang, that's a good idea...

3.5yr rebuild project done, but gutless... help?

Got a Mk1 1.6L TD from a junk yard, had the cylinders bored oversize and new pistons and rings. Head seemed ok so I just did a valve adjustment (thinner shims on all 8 valves) and replaced the stem seals. Measured piston protrusion with dial indicator and installed 2 notch head gasket. Had injection...

Re: 1981 1.6D rabbit freshening

What I would do is this: Unlock cam and pump and rotate to TDC per the flywheel. Loosen the cam sprocket bolt and knock the cam sprocket loose. Rotate the cam (with Vice-grips between lobes) to TDC and insert cam locking tool (including shims if fit is loose), then tighten cam sprocket bolt. Once th...

If your injectors are out, a thin flexible wire can be poked down in beyond the prechamber to feel where the piston top is.
