Re: Tips for a fail-proof head gasket - Any such thing???
So... When I change my head gasket what will guarantee (OK, not really possible) that my head gasket will last 100K miles and not leak instead of lasting 10K miles? I already use a 12mm block so no block cracks from torquing properly (knock on wood). I had the block and head rebuilt - they should ha...

Re: Tips for a fail-proof head gasket - Any such thing???
Get an original asbestos gasket. In general: [My personal findings] Periodically revisiting the head bolts is good policy, retorque those that undo with a torque of 60lbft or less. If bolt doesn't shift at say 70lbft, then leave alone. Retorque to 95lbft those that are 'loose'. I didn't know that t...

Re: Tips for a fail-proof head gasket - Any such thing???
I've never used sealant when I've done the head gaskets. Not saying that it shouldnt' be used though. There's a test kit that you can do to see if you are getting combustion gasses into the coolant. I'd test this first before replacing the head gasket if the water leak isn't excessive. Ole 82 has t...

Re: Tips for a fail-proof head gasket - Any such thing???
I don't have a tach on the care but it has the 5 speed, 020, FN transmission so I think the engine is not over-reved at 70mph.TylerDurden wrote:I'd use hylomar gasket sealant on the next.
What rpm at 70mph? (or tranny code and tire size)
I'll look into the gasket sealer. Thanks.

Tips for a fail-proof head gasket - Any such thing???
Hi All, I just went through a full engine rebuild with my 81 Rabbit pickup and after 10,000 miles I have a leaking head gasket (water seeping out of it). Is there a thread that has everything to do to virtually guarantee that the head gasket will last a LONG time? I'm guessing that they should last ...

Re: What is this ported cover plate for? (1.6 diesel)
All,
Thank you for the responses. Since I changed from the diaphragm to vane type vacuum pump I guess I'm OK with it blocked. I'm looking for a solid plate but don't want to get rid of this ported plate until I know for sure that I won't use it.

What is this ported cover plate for? (1.6 diesel)
Hi All, I'm putting together my rebuilt 1.6 diesel and am wondering what the ported plate on the block is to the left of my oil filter mount. The plate on this engine has a tube (barbed) coming out of it that has a plugged hose over it. What is the plate with the barb supposed to be for? If I don't ...

I found a cover - never mind the below... Hi All, I'm looking to **purchase** some of your left over A/C components if you want to make a little money while deleting your system. Specifically, I need the box that goes over the blower motor, mounted in the engine compartment, in where the wiper motor...
