Unfortunately, my belt solution has failed. Not sure exactly why, but the belt is gone. Pulley is still in place and tight.

Guess I'll go back to the OEM "solution".

Seems like maybe an old timing belt tensioner pulley might work in place of the flat pulley. The question is what size belt to use? Any ideas?

Let us know. I have also been to the point of dumping the car due to alternator belt problem. I am very interested in your solution.

Thanks Josh. I have read about all the different setups for resolving the squeaking Jetta alternator belt, and while all are interesting solutions I still wish to know if the MK1 bracket and removing the AC will solve the problem.
