Re: Another No Start Question - with Video
just a quick update:
The issue was a bad ground connection at the engine block. I rechecked and cleaned each connection and tried to start after each one to be sure I found the bad connection. The bolt and end and wire had some corrosion, once cleaned up and tightened....she started just fine...

Re: 1991 Jetta, trouble removing transmission
Did you remove the mount that bolts through the drive axle assembly? If not, you need to remove it. If its been removed, then the only advice I can offer is to rotate the transmission counter clockwise (from the drivers side wheel end) and up sort of to get it to clear. Its a job, but not nearly as...

Re: Hot engine wouldn't start.
Well I nearly got stuck out on the highway. I was headed to the lake for the first time this year to test out some new windsurfing gear. I'm always bucking headwinds with a small trailer. Only 28 to 42km winds a mild day for around here. They stop me on the highway and told me I had to wait 10 minu...

A/C recharging
Hello all, My 1990 Jetta N/A is in need of a A/C recharge. She was blowing cold last summer, this summer, not so much...it's going to be 98 here tomorrow, so I figured I'd see what others have found successful... The system is R12...and from what I've read, a r134 conversion in not the answer... I'm...

Re: Timing Question
I am having a timing issue on my 86 golf 1.6 guys. I put a new timing belt on it today. Got everything lined up like you're supposed to and locked it down. I tried to crank it and it wouldn't start, so i pulled back up to what seemed to be TDC and noticed that the injection pump was a little off. S...

Re: Removing AC Compressor?
Hello, after reading through the forum I see that there are a BUNCH of threads about deleting your AC, but none help with my issue. I had a compressor bolt sheer leaving the end of it in my AC/Alternator bracket. I need to know how to remove the compressor. I have the alternator out and the compres...

I would definitely look into trying to salvage the block itself with a rebuild unless of course there is serious damage or pitting in the bores. Is the head ok? Do you know what caused the failure? The head is fine. As for the cause, not sure. I bought it knowing the engine was locked. When dissemb...

1.6 Block or doorstop...?
I tore apart a 1.6 engine that was locked. I found this in the oil pan...
upon further inspection...
Is this block any good? I'm thinking no, but I want to be sure...
