Re: Brakes Drag when Engine Warms
See if you can remove the two nuts holding the MC and just pull the MC out of the way without disconnecting the brake lines.. they will bend a bit, but it "should" work. Have a friend push the brake pedal to the floor (or wedge a stick in between the pedal and the seat if you don't have an...

Re: Another Alternator Belt Tensioner - 3VX belts?
Here's the solution I came up with a few years ago: http://www.vwdieselparts.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=8173&start=15 there's a picture and writeup of what I did on page 2. It ran for several years befoere I sold the car. The larger flat belt (lawn mower) pulley provided less back-bend th...

Re: Brakes Drag when Engine Warms
Sorry, I sold my 91 NA and have been off line for a few years.. but I know this problem and solution. The person that said the brake booster rod needs to be adjusted is the winner. The rod should have at least 1 mm free play between it and the master cylinder, and the rod is adjustable. it takes a s...

My solution
After almost selling the car because of the hell the alt belt put me through, it threw a NEW belt while a potential buyer was test driving it. I decided to re-engineer the layout and keep the car. Here's the solution that I came up with about two years ago. I've been running the same belt for the la...

Funny you should mention..
but yes, the glove box light is out, and the cig light is out.. though the lighter works. Seems you're onto something. Now I've just to find the Bentley.. haven't seen it in awhile. Back to the syncro/quattro thread.. do you know if the 1.6 VW block-to-bellhousing pattern is the same as the 1.8? If ...

Haven't checked the cig or glove box lights. 91 NA (Jetta), hence the sig.. Though after reading your ongoing saga, I am looking for a Quantum.. preferably with a blown engine. I recently scored a rebuilt Quantum TD engine w/ all receipts.. heard it run before it was pulled. Just need a worthy vesse...

All background lights?
Oddly enough, no. I've lost the instrument cluster lights and the light on the climate control panel. I still have the lights (with dimmer) for the 4-way flasher and the rear window defogger / demister. Per the Owners Manual, the license plate lights are on the same fuse circuit, and they are workin...

Dash lights
Mine just quit.
I figured it was the rheoststat on the headlight switch, so I swapped out, and still no lights.
Any ideas?
Is this a common failure mode?
Bad ground somewhere?
Regards,
Mark

5th gear swap?
Does anyone here have any experience with having swapped a 5th gear to a .75, or .71? I have an AWY trans on a '91 1.6 NA diesel with a .89 5th, and its screaming at 70 mph. I've reviewed the gear selection charts from this site www.scirocco.org/gears/vwtrannyratios.xls and it looks like a 5th gear ...

Synchro / Quattro
Help me out here folks. I'm reading about Quantum synchro TDs, and its not adding up for me. Were these 4 cyl Synchro TDs, or 5? Unless they were Euro / Canada only, I thought the Synchro trans only accepted the 5 cyl block pattern, a la Audi 4000 Quattro. Inquiring minds and all that.. I'm asking b...
