WOW! You're some kind of smart on this stuff, aren't you? Honestly, without some sort of cross reference for what you wrote, i was lost in many of the acronyms and chemical references. I can say that I was greatly impressed, and regardless of my inadequate background to fully comprehend everything y...

Is Diesel Grade Motor Oil Necissary When Running Biodiesel??

So there I was, puttering in to work this morning and I had a thought... I know, I know I should mark this day down on the calander, right? Anyhow, since I've always heard that the reason I need Diesel motor oil in my engine is to nuetralize the acid content caused by sulfers in the fuel, I have to ...

I've heard that the later models had some sort of plastic fuel lines running from the tank, but I'm not aware of the compatibility. I've also heard that the chassis was the same between the A1 and the A2, so perhaps you can retrofit the A1 stuff into the A2 and just be done with it.

A little history for those of us who weren't around at the time... When the diesel Rabbit was first introduced, it was VW's attempt at a work around for the first OPEC embargo. Diesel was plentiful, but there were very few stations that carried it. The price was much lower than standard petroleum, a...

I feel your pain. The same thing happenned to me almost a year ago. I loved that car. The difference is that yours is truely messed up, mine was only minor damage, but was totaled non the less. I feel so bad even looking at yours. It was a beautiful car! Mine's kinda ugly. I never could imagine how ...

I can't really say for sure, but I can point out some details that I've never seen on a rabbit. Between every peice of interior trim in the dash is a hidden strip of felt tape. Everywhere I've been able to see on the interior seems to be lined with 1/2" thick open cell foam. Sometimes one layer...

Noise Reduction

I recently picked up an '82 Audi 4000 with a N/A 1.6 to go with my '81 Rabbit 1.6 N/A. I was struck by the difference in sound volume. The Audi is so quiet that you can hear newer gas powered cars idling beside me at stop lights! It's hard to tell that the engine is running when you're driving down ...

The 16v Passat got dual fans (unsure if that's Mk2 or Mk3), but there is only 1 fan motor and the fans are connected to each other with a belt. You are so right, and I was so mistaken. I went to my freind to ask him about how his two fan system operates, only to discover he only had one motor with ...

I suppose if you could find a Bently or a Haynes for a diesel of this model, then yes. Thus far the only thing I've been able to get is a Haynes manual for a gas version (schematics don't seem to compare well) and a factory manual (800 pages) that I've ordered from Amazon but haven't recieved yet. I...

You guys are great! Thanks. (competitor's name removed by moderator) lists a radiator fan relay for this car, NAPA showed two seperate thermal switches (one that went closed at around 190 and opened at 180, the other cycled both on and off at just over 200), and my fuse panel cover does seem to show...

audi radiator fan question

I know, I know. This is a VW forum. Perhaps you can take a few minutes to help me out with this new audi I just picked up. I just got an '82 Audi 4000 diesel. Since Audi's the red headed step child for VW, almost everything involved in the car is actually VW. The engine is a 1.6 NA that's mounted fr...

The stuff I'm using is in the fuel injector line. I have no idea what associated numbers go with it... I just walked up to the car parts dealer in my area and specified that it had to be Goodyear, it had to be for fuel injection, and it needed to be XX size. When he handed it over, I noticed it was ...

That MPG is not out of line for a NA engine with the miles you're describing and (most likely) a 4 speed tranny. If you're looking for more, get a turbo and a fresh engine, then read Hagar's thread.

Question about gage clusters

Will a gage cluster from a model that has the upshift indicator retrofit into a model without, knowing that the upshift light wouldln't function? Does it have the same wiring harness and speedo cable connectors? Should I bother trying?

Yeah, that was me, too. I can still remember the last words of the smart guy who was standing OUTSIDE the garage... "Carefull!"

My ears were ringing, and I had to change my underwear!
