Re: Say it ain't so

Very sad to see this go after 16 years on here. Amazing amount of incredible information you're not likely to find anywhere else. I haven't had to do much to my 82 since the floor pan repair exercise and it doesn't get driven in any wet weather since then. I too would like to archive this somehow bu...

Re: Updated !!New Injector pump = no power, lots of smoke and knocking

Seems odd that it has less power with the pump tightened down. My brain went to some sort of flexing issue in the pump but that would be very unusual. Have you tried turning in the "smoke" screw a quarter turn or so? Sorry without going back through the whole thread I don't recall all that...

Re: clutch disc thickness wear limit spec?

Re: clutch disc thickness wear limit spec?

No Spec but I have had cases where the clutch would not hold torque, first being with my 75 Rabbit gasser that had several tweaks on power including headers, open exhaust and Weber carb. Getting on the highway in third gear would break the clutch loose at full throttle. Sold the car before replacing...

Re: Updated !!New Injector pump = no power, lots of smoke and knocking

Clean the backside of the pump well, paper towels and maybe some careful shots of brake clean. Let dry. Wrap each of the four output fittings with some strips of paper towel. Secure with wire if possible. Run engine until you can detect a leak. Shut off and see if any of the paper towels are wet. Yo...

Re: diesel rabbit no start

Most of the 1.5s had the slow glow plugs. if even cool outside you may need 30 seconds of glow plug power. BTW the fuse on the firewall is for the glow plugs. If all else fails you can jumper straight from the positive post to the glowplug buss for 30-45 seconds and see if that helps. If that gets i...

Re: Hard start... where too next?

Yep hopefully not a broken ring or something seized up. As for the fun to drive gassers my son has an 87 Golf with a G60 conversion, coilovers, disk brakes all the way around, it'a blast and faster than his G60 Corrado. But due to rust issues it is becoming an engine donor for a pristine 85 Rabbit c...

Re: Hard start... where too next?

Are you sure you are getting good voltage to the starter? You could have some corrosion building in the battery cables which would reduce voltage to the starter under load. One trick I have done is connecting a good jumper cable from the battery negative terminal to the engine block which would redu...

Re: Timing belt tensioner stud helicoil failure fix?

outstanding. I have never personally used one of the ez lok inserts but have heard they work well if all the hole prep is good and you use threadlocker, etc. I have used something similar on stripped spark plug holes with 100% long term success so you're probably good to go.

Re: New paint on 82

Yep photobucket already blocked it. Tried to get imgur to work and apparently didn't get the instructions right. Will try again later. Yep I knew going in that the body needed work but my body work skills are lacking and getting it right is more physical strain than I can do these days, not to menti...

New paint on 82

Fair job but not great. Apparently chunks of dirt in the paint is what they consider acceptable. Nationwide chain whose sale adds are 30% of true costs

Hope this link will stay up for a few days.

Re: Block heater spot

Don't remember for sure but I think mine is a Kats, it's a 400 watt. Heats things up nicely in an hour or less depending on outside temp. It's been installed for at least 5 years, probably a good bit longer (time flies...). Knock on wood it has been flawless.

agreed on the hose heater I installed one years ago and it works great. cheap and easy to install, no worrying about freeze plugs and no contortionist act to get to it

Re: The little bronze Rabbit.

I know that feeling. I still miss the very nice 82 pickup I sold. But parking spaces are limited in residential areas and the neighbors are probably glad I only have three on the street these days.
