If you even have a passing interest in alternative fuels, now is the time to upgrade the hoses to something biodiesel compatable. I think grease works sell a complete viton conversion for around $100. You can find cheaper for sure, given some time and effort, but the two kits I've used were fairly p...

I once had a pump rebuilt by a bosch pump shop in Clearfield PA . It took them 3 months to do it and it suffered this same problem. It was on an engine with low miles and was for sure a pump problem. When it ran away it made a more black smoke than the classic "oil burning" runaway does. I...

The starter has not given me any trouble since this. Just to keep things a little less exciting I put a battery turn off on the battery. I did buy a new starter but haven't put it on yet(armed with hammer just in case)

starter sticking on

Hi, I have an 83 rabbit that is powered by a 1997 tdi, 1Z engine code. Last night my starter stuck on after starting the truck, the only way to stop it from spinning was to pull the battery cable off. Turning the key off shut the engine down but not the starter. After trying several other start atte...

Better

I haven't seen any adjustment on the inside of the cab. When I did the tdi swap I had to greatly modify the pedals, the cable clutch conversion for the 02A transmission has far greater resistance than the original 020 transmission did, I say all that to get to the point  anyway, I think my pro...

Agh!

Replaced brake booster today, it came with a new check valve. Still have the pedal sticking down problem...... only difference now is when the brakes come on they are rather strong and when the pedal sticks down it holds the truck tight to the point that it may stall if I tried to pull out. Brakes s...

Hi Vince, I found them at several places in the US, autozone and advanced auto to name two. Priced at 90 to $100.

Well at least the pistons did not sieze... I would figure the head will need replaced at a minimum(that coolant went somewhere) but like 82vdub said, a compression check is in order. Sorry to hear about the incident.

OK, pulled the Vacuum line out of booster, pushed on brakes several times, they remained firm and the pedal did not "stick down" as before or go as far down. After this exercise I started truck and stuck my thumb over vac hose, seems like lots of vacuum. I stuck the vacuum hose back in boo...

brake booster??

Hello, I have a problem with my brakes(again) on my 83 rabbit pickup. About two months ago I replaced the master cylinder, both rear drums, both rear wheel cylinders, one of the front calipers and all shoes/pads. Brakes worked great for a month and really, still do but.... after pressing the brake p...

It is finshed

To close the thread here; I put on the new caliper today(the one with the operating bleeder) and after a brief bleeding of air I have brakes! For the benefit (amusement?) of others I will have to admit the inside brake pad was bent…. I’m not sure this was the whole trouble, but I can’t say it ...

I think op ivy might be on to something, after exhausting all other avenues I tried using an "easy out" (which for me have never ever been easy) to remove the bleeder from said front caliper. I managed to break it off which I find to be a game stopper. After the brief period of abusing the...

Thanks vw dub, I didn't let the master cylinder run dry ( I have done that in the past though;( ) Most of the air was in the back after replacing the wheel cylinders. I did get a tiny bit out of the front which I did first. I had to push the calipers back in order to fit the new pads, but I don't se...
