I'd guess its blowby. Due to worn rings or oil thinned from overheating. Air/fuel blows by the rings on the compression/power rev. Thanks for all of the responses. I was just trying to confirm the existence of second oversized piston rings. My cylinders are 77.51mm, which is correct for my piston sizes (77.48mm). Question about rings for 1.6L NA.

It looks like there are three sizes of rings for the 1.6L engine. STD, 1st oversize, and 2nd oversize. I can't find 2nd oversize rings, which are .040" (1mm) oversize. My pistons are 77.48mm dia, which is the lowest end of the third oversize range for pistons. Can I get away with using 1st over...

I recently bought an 82 diesel vanagon with some fuel delivery and possible transmission issues. Right now I'm trying to get the clutch pedal to depress.
