Replace the stumpy flex with a longer one and move it as close to the turbo as possible. Right now you have a long, rigid "lever" extending away from the engine center - vibrations will only be amplified as you move away from the crank centerline... Also by mounting part of the exhaust to ...

I didn't have a problem even with the manifolds in place on my 1.6. I can't remember exactly how I did it though - I might have only had two studs in to keep things aligned and installed the rest afterward. Either way the studs have a female hex in the end so you can R&R them with the head in pl...

Re: timing 1.6L vanagon

crank engine backwards till gauge stops. Then zero gauge by rotating dial face until the needle points at zero . Then turn engine clockwise to TDC. Rotate pump until gauge reads .039" and lock it in position. Everytime though I come up with .060in. instead of .035-.040in. And the pump won't tu...

Driver's side would be "standard" since the wiring in a Westy is already there, under the seat.

Close enough - it's what Im using but you have to come up with your own mount. The package even listed the Rabbit truck as an application in addition to the Vanagon.

I believe they're the same across the board, at least for 2wd. Braided stainless hoses are out there for not much more than stock replacement rubber hoses.

Sorry - I was in a hurry last night. I ordered replacement rears from a shady supplier and they sent Van fronts, explaining on the phone after I complained that the Caddy hoses are NLA (as you know) but the Van front hoses are a direct functional replacement (length & ends) but you have to come ...

I used longer than stock studs, knowing that the 1/2" exhaust flange and the 1/4" bracket would be too thick for the stockers - plus I think the originals were in poor shape and needed to be replaced anyhow. Soak the area with Kroil or similar, at the point where the stud enters the turbin...

This is my solution, based on the OEM TD Van brace. The OEM brace mounts near the center of the engine block and creates a less than ideal angle for controlling exhaust flex, plus there just aren't that many used pieces kicking around in the junkyards here. My support bracket bolts to the lower left...

The wording seems to apply to heavy-duty, commercial sized vehicles. Those tend to fall under different standards - I'd be willing to bet that CA won't apply this to passenger vehicles, otherwise they would have already made catalytic converters a required retrofit all the way back to the Model T er...

Mine has a sendor in both locations. I've left the sender at the filter flange unhooked and otherwise acting as an effective plug.

I found that there's two dimensions they will want - bushing height and the thickness of the little flange on the underside. I think there's two flange thicknesses and ours (mine at least) is the thin one, something like 2mm or so vs. 5ish mm. Height of mine is "short" at 19mm, sits flush ...

Careful - I chipped a pulley with a universal 2-jaw puller on the last one I did. I ended up being down for almost a month waiting for a good pulley to get here. If the jaw dosen't have a good, deep grip, you risk slipping off and that's what took some pulley material along for a ride. Twice now I'v...
