When I pulled the new bolts out of the bag, I realized they were already well oiled, so I went with that. I have them finger tight in there now, I will torque it tomorrow. It sure was a PITA setting the head on there with the manifolds on, trying to keep the gasket in place. I tried the dowels like ...

anti-sieze on TTY head bolts?
I tried searching, but I couldn't get the thing to search narrowly enough.
Should I use anti-sieze on the head bolts?
I scrubbed out the bolt holes in the block with a wire brush and swabbed them all out with paper towels.

So by not near the cylinder ring, you mean not where the edge of the cylinder hole in the gasket touches the head? So I'm thinking that if I were to lay the gasket on there and draw the circles with a sharpie and then make sure not to put peen marks on that line, that's what you are talking about? t...

klincoln; Even if you won your case, as your gloating post seems to imply, your total lack of professionalism is more than obvious to everyone who has read what little you've posted here. If I was in your neighborhood, I would stay far, far away from you regardless of whether this particular claim a...

yeah, I didn't realize that more than one well was broken until I took the head off and pulled that water neck. I was pretty surprised when I saw the extent of the cracking. He must have really been leaning into it! I like my snap on click style torque wrench. It has never done me wrong yet, in over...

as an aside, the guy I bought the car from was huge. At least 6 feet tall and half as wide, and he had bought himself a new digital torque wrench and was cranking away on it, waiting for the click... Those suckers might be in there at 400 ft pounds for all I know! I guess the crack should he...

I've been reading about the home made injector tester, looks pretty interesting. I am going to the parts store tomorrow and will pick up a set of new nozzles at a minimum so I can clean up a set of allegedly good used injectors I have. If I can get these out I will try to find a shop that will test ...

here's what happens to the head if you pull away from it when tightening injectors. What I don't get is how the guy could have done TWO of them like that before stopping... I haven't tried to pull the injectors yet, but the glow plugs would not come out. The hex part just spins but doesn't un...

If i'm putting a new belt on, I always make sure to break that bolt loose with the timing belt on. It seems to be enough to hold it, while I smack on the breaker bar. This can stretch the belt so I only do it with a junk belt. An impact would also probably break it loose without a holder, if it wil...

I see too many threads on here that have head replacement stories that end in expensive disintegration. Could you link to three threads that occurred in last two years that outlined failed cylinder heads shortly after rebuild that were not caused by improper timing? I didn't say I knew what caused ...

The different gaskets are to compensate for very slight differences in the casting and machining of the various bottom-end components. The proper gasket does assist in maintaining the proper compression ratio, but as I pointed out with the laborious mathematics, even extreme cases of shaving the he...

The thing is, do you want to believe The Bentley Bible which may have cost owners $100's of thousands in unneccesary replacement parts ... or do you feel safer with the huge accumulated IQ of the forum 'brain' which on average is a non-profitmaking conglomerate 8) Here you have lots of differing vi...
