Reading a little further i got the answers to my questions about the cracks and welding. You guys should start a forum or something:) However i still need a source for the prechambers.

I have my 1.6 TD apart and also have cracks in the head and prechambers. One crack in the head looks like a piece of paper might slide in. Is that too much? My neighbor is a welder and can weld up the cracks. Any issues w/ welding these heads? Also anyone know where to get new prechambers.

I would consider replacing the bolts w/ studs. When I was re-installing mine i cross threaded one. It's trickier putting them in than taking them out. Come to think of it, that's what she said

The Ford part no. is what I had as well. I went to Jegs and priced the 204-4706 and they are $212. The 251-4701 are $132. Headbolts.com shows the Ford part no. will fit the 1.6. I think I am going to order the ones for $132.

A related question to the head: I was planning on buying new cam followers but that has changed. Can you mix them up on the valves or do i have to buy new ones? It is a 1.6 TD solid lifter head.

Did you just install the head gasket? If so, you may have torqued it incorrectly which may require another head gasket. You could try re-torquing it before buying a new gasket. If not, I would think it is time for a new head gasket and have the head checked for straightness. Mine is seeping too and ...

One thing I am going to do when I transplant the TD into my Caddy is try and swap in the new serpentine belt system. One might also swap to the Jetta v-belt setup w/ the adjusting bolt.
