The cam has a keyway, the gear has not. Its held in place by its tapered fit and the torqued bolt.
Check your Bentley for the torque value.

The other great site is down again! If something needs to be done to bring it back and keep it strong then would someone in a position to do so, do so?!? Is it a money issue? Do we need a serious hat passing? Public radio style fund raising? I don't really know the questions let alone the answers bu...

Glad you got it out. I had the same issue with an 85 Golf. Used a hacksaw blade through the hole in the middle, to cut from the centre out to the threads, stopping when I touched the aluminium. Squeeze the head of the plug with the channel locks and it will break free and unscrew easily. The cut has...

If it was not for organizations like the UAW you would still be working fifty hours a week for half the pay. Remember which side your bread is truly buttered.

Boat trailers have hydraulic brakes, stainless steel discs and calipers. The master cylinder is connected to the socket of the hitch. When the towing vehicle brakes the trailer surges forward actuating the master cylinder and the trailer brakes. I'm not going to tow the boat with the golf. Resurecti...

trailering with my car

I have been trying to figure out the maximum trailering capacity of my 1985 Golf. It seems from my web searching that i need to know the GCWR (Gross Combined Weight Rating) to calculate. Anyone know what value this is or where I might find it? It is not on the door post. Just to give you some idea o...

Well I changed my oil yesterday and in an attempt not to get oil down the front of the engine and my hand, I punctured the filter with a nail and drained it. Even so there is an amount of oil held above the filter (by a valve in the filter?) that is, in fact, the culprit. Aspiring to a white shirt o...

Thanks for the link Fatmobile.
Thats a mk2 jetta hitch of which I have.
With cutting, drilling and welding it could be made to fit a mk2 golf but I'd rather not.
Still searching,

If the pump has been rebuilt has the internal pressure been checked? Pump pressure has a direct relationship to dynamic timing advance and advanced dynamic timing sounds like marbles. I adjusted internal pressure according to posts on this forum and found the "marbles" disconcerting althou...

It bolts onto the bumper and the body. Four bolts and is rated for a tongue weight of 200# and trailer weight of 2000#. I have a hitch on my 85 Golf thats bolted to the bumper only and has half the rating. Any one out there who could sell me one of either type(although preferably the first) for a MK...

WTB Trailer Hitch For 91 Golf

I'm looking for a trailer hitch for a 91 Golf. The guy around here says they don't really have any for a car that old that don't cost an arm and a leg. We have one for a 91 Jetta, but not quite the right size. Maybe somebody out there has one for a Golf and needs one for a Jetta? Or maybe someone kn...

Thats right, piston skirt measured perpendicular to wrist pin .001" smaller than the bore, so to answer your question .0005" each side.
Apparently this is tight by gasser standards but correct for this application.
