I guess I ought to go talk to my diesel Vanagon's. I talked to my machine shop this morning about the alleged .30 taken off he pulled his records and told me both heads on my diesel Vanagons were resurfaced to and maybe more than .30 including the pre-chambers so I guess after 14 years I better get ...

I can assure you, I have had diesel heads resurfaced. Albeit slightly, but resurfaced.

In fact the new head I just bought was slightly resurfaced because it sat in a box for 23 years. My tech who is a marvel on VW's touched up the surface before putting the head back together for installation

I got a factory unit in one of my Diesel Vanagons, and I don't think I have turned it on in 16 years! BTW it was a $400 factory option on the 1982 sticker

Almost forgot that little burner was under there!

I just ran into some punk crybaby who bought a head off me from one of my 1.5's. Ran fine on my 1980 Caddy. Sadly, a big Cement Mixer decided not to stop at a RR crossing and shoved me, the Caddy and himself into the side of a stopped freight train I yanked the motor after the insurance company paid...

Would shaving .30 off of a head render it useless?

I got some whiner who says that a head shaved .30 is now un useable. I used it on a 1.5.

.30 is not all that much to resurface a head, and who knows, thicker head gaskets?

Far as I know they are all the same if you run the parts on any parts/web site they show the 77-92 using all the same numbers I bet I have 4 or 5 sets and probably double that in loose lines in my work shop.... Shame California Soccer moms all have trophy hubbies making huge lease payments on those ...

The engine came out this afternoon. Nasty little thing. Smells of gas. Flywheel and clutch were perfect match. . I'm taking out the electric pumps tomorrow. Re plumbing to match my Caddy with one line to and one line fro the engine. I guess it might be prudent to pull the tank and have it cleaned, b...

Converting a 88 Fox Wagon to diesel

Next week, (as soon as the rain passes) we are going to yank the 1.8 out of a 88 Fox Wagon. In place a non turbo 1.6 diesel is going in. How critical is the fuel tank. Draining out the gas then chucking the fuel pumps into the trash, that tank should be usable. Right? Everything else will match up. ...
