On 86 it is about under passengers feet in fuel line along subframe. Kind of a parts anomaly since Bentley doesn't show it! Haven't been able to find in ETKA either. Regards

tylernt makes an excellent point, these old parts are bound to have some pretty heavy wear, unless yours has been setting in a warehouse for 25 years.

A few years back I always bought the low-end brand belt at the parts store. The low-end stuff had different name marked on belt, but was basically the same as the quality high-end belt, only cheaper. The last two low-end belts I purchased (crappy overseas stuff seems to be coming into market) failed...

Below is a good article on the MB KCA injector (very similar to the VW KCA), its got pictures showing the nozzle holder (between upper body & nozzle) that gets lapped on both sides. Read it thoroughly to get the full scope of what it takes to recondition an injector. As I previously related in l...

Firstly there are no stupid questions… just people too stupid to ask! Most of the experts (usually people that want your money) will tell you that you have to have a diamond lapping plate or other specialized equipment & training to do this job. If your making a monster motor you may want to s...

Thats a weird one! I would spray on some degreaser/grime buster, and blast off all the crud with a power wash. Might want to do same to driveway so you will know you have the right puddle. Park it overnight (same position that it leaked before), get under in morning with strong light and scope out w...

tylernt Turbo Charger On the old 107 pumps, with the cold start lever housing disassembled, laying a straight edge between the two boltholes usually reveals that the sealing surface is not flat. Some I’ve seen even have cracks from too much flexing. On later pumps (not sure of cut in) they beefed ...

Below the camshaft is the belt tension-adjusting pulley (small pulley), below and to right of that is intermediate shaft pulley (about same size as cam pulley). Both of these should have lips on edges to help guide belt, cam and IP pulleys have no lips on edge. So when you say idler?? belt is off ¼â€

The cold start lever on the old VE pumps is connected to the main chamber that is fed by the internal vane pump. With the motor running the pressure in this area is app. 40 to 150 psig, depending on how fast motor/pump is turning. With the motor running the pressure will cause fuel leaks, but not pu...

Don’t know what ambient temp is/was in your area but it kind of sounds like thermoswitch circuit problems, my read of your narrative indicates fan still does not come on after changes you made. These systems can be pretty confusing; hopefully the comments below will help. Cold radiator hose at bot...

I’ve still got 3 Diesel Pickups, love them to death. Best lightweight utility vehicle ever made IMO. In Bentleys, the vent hose comes out top of sending unit on top of tank, goes to a gravity valve, then on to an expansion tank. On top of the expansion tank the actual vent line comes out. Could be...

Not sure about all the new pumps, but the old ones have bushings that are replaceable (BOSCH 1 460 400 004 (2 per pump)). They're about $5 each in my area. I've had the pump shop counter guy tell me they are not replaceable to my face. When I called him on it he went back into the shop for a few min...

Big concern with having a 25 yr. old pump just resealed is amount of mainhaft bushing wear! Main shaft bearing wear limit is .2mm (about .008"). see thread: http://www.vwdiesel.net/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=3238. Might want to ck. amount of wear before final decision as to what to have done to pump!

Tuned the car, whats this noise?

Assuming (dangerous) the noise is due to something youve changed. Sometimes rebuilding injectors, tweaking timing, etc. can cause hammering sounds from injection system (hit's a resonant frequency, and is kind of like a water hammer effect in your house plumbing). Often sounds like a bad lifter but ...
