pump
For the oil pump, you can just pull the two bolts out holding the halves together and measure the length of the gears to see what you have. The real early pumps were 27mm, then in early '80s I believe they switched to 30mm pumps. As far as I know , both these had same pump body and therefore same le...

seat contact
I would just go with the Bentley numbers. Thats what I have always cut mine to. I dont know why you would want to go smaller anyway. The smaller the seat, the less heat transfer to the head, which is where it needs to go. Obviously too big isnt good either for wear and noise reasons.

brake discs
Not a diesel question, but....... Can I fit '83-'84 GTI vented rotors on the front of my '81 Caddy, or do I also need the GTI calipers? I heard the rotors fit right on, but wanted another opinion or two before I order. I figured that would be a decent upgrade, but I'm not planning on racing or autoc...

Did you rebuild your injection pump as well when you did the rest of the motor?

No reason why you cant. All the bolt on stuff is the same as the 1.6 . Its been done lots of times. You'll have to do custom exhaust and all that, but its a good motor match for the truck.

boost
Yeah so I did what Quantum man said and hooked up boost gauge temporarily into cab and took the truck for a spin.....sure enough, now there's boost! Not lots of it though. I couldn't get it past 10psi....so now I guess its off to get a boost controller to get a few more psi. I already blocked the BO...

boost
Ok. Interesting. I'll wait till I can put the gauge in the car to see what It reads. I wouldn't have thought it would make that big of a difference between load or no-load.

boost
Why wouldnt I get an accurate reading from there? I know its for the LDA, so it should show boost pressure......thats what activates the LDA.
I wasnt idling it, I was revving it as I said above.

boost pressure
So I have my 1.6TD running and haven't got a boost gauge to mount in the cab yet, but I had an old boost gauge from another turbo setup kicking around the garage. So I figured, hey, i'll hook this up just temporarily and see what numbers I get. So I hooked it up to the boost line coming off the goos...

1. Are the 1.6 turbo diesel valves different and should I use those instead of the N/A due to increased heat? The turbo valves used to be different. Several parts suppliers I have personally talked to say that today's valves are made the same; there is no difference between the NA and Turbo valves ...

turbo
Yeah I agree w/ 82Vdub it will be alot of fab work if you dont buy the right items. You can use a 1.8T exhaust manifold, it will physically fit, but uses a different turbo with a different flange than the common turbos used on the old turbo diesels. If you found a turbo and 1.8T manifold that mate t...

My buddy has a '97 Jetta that he wants to put a 1.6D in.....I wasn't too sure what the differences in motor mounts or clutch and flywheel, etc, was....so I told him I would do a little investigating to see if its a possible project. I haven't looked at the car closely lately, but will soon, so by vi...

Yes it could just be your injection pump internals sticking from old fuel....it is possible for certain internal parts to remain stationary if they are sticking but yet your throttle arm still moves. Diesel Purge is a product that many people suggest for clearing varnish from a pump. How well does i...
