ianspencer, I am certainly no diesel expert, I am having the same problem with my 81Caddy 1.6na. I think part of the broblem, is that there are so many causes of this problem. Defective delivery valve, defective injector, loose IP bolt, idle set to high, pump to rich, pump to lean, dirt in pump, stu...

iamspencer, take a look at this thread, I think it is along the same line. My 81 Caddy 1.6na has been doing the same thing for about 500 miles, I haven't found the answer yet. Kanzan

Cam question

Tried to find an answer using the search feature, no luck. A friend recently bought a 1982 Rabbit 2 door diesel. It has been non operable for several years. The PO told him it has a blown head gasket. When he removed the valve cover to see what kind of head bolts he has, he found the cam is broken i...

Backed the idle screw away from the throttle arm. That did slow down the idle. That did have some effect on the very fast idle condition. Still does not want to slow down once in awhile. Put a quart of ATF in the tank for lubrication. Have a can of Diesel Purge I will use as soon as I can find my sp...

VW Diesel saving the World!!!

VW write up in the KC Star Saturday July 18? Did a piece on the 2009 VW Jetta TDI. VW states that if one third of all light vehicles in the U.S. were diesels, the country would save 1.4 million barrels of oil a day. That's an amount equal to the daily shipments from Saudi Arabia. Who needs Al Gore, ...

The throttle arm is securily attached to the IP shaft, no slipage there. Did put a few drops of oil in the little cup on top of the IP. Not sure what Hagar is talking about. Does he mean to lower the regular idle speed? I can do that, but how will that effect this very fast idle condition? Kanzan

Don't think I am having runaway, almost no oil in the intake, and the key kills it. The engine is not screaming, just a very fast idle. I can duplicate the trouble just by pushing the throttle past what ever the fast idle speed is. Did it twice in the drive yesterday. Opened the hood while it was on...

Very Fast Idle

Had to happen sooner or later, things just going to good. The rebuilt 1.6na diesel in my 81 Caddy has been running just great. Has over 550 miles and one oil change on it now. Starts instantly, on smoke ever. Just recently it has started running at a very fast idle once I pass a certain spot on the ...

Oil Filters

My rebuilt 1.6na diesel has about 500 miles on it now. Went out today to get oil and filter. Had a hard time finding a dealer that has Bosch-Mann-Mahle filters. All his filters that fit the early VW 1.6na diesel had the same warning" Part Number: W0133-1638280 Notes: **10/18/04 VW/Audi has reco...

Cup Holder???

Have had my 81 Diesel Caddy on the road for several months now. Runs great and is fun to drive. My biggest complaint so far, is where to put a cup holder? I like my coffee in the morning, so I end up holding it in my lap while I shift gears and steer. Have ended up wearing several cups of hot coffee...

As far as I know, that is the original center bumper section. All I did was remove the trailer hitch ball from the center hole, prime, sand and paint the rest of it. Kanzan

Got everything back together today. Came out OK. Looks lots better then before. Could have made the new inner covers just a little longer. The picture makes the drivers side cover look crooked , but its straight. Kanzan [img][/img]
