More than one way to skin a Caddy

Been trying for sometime to find a rear inner bumper cover for my 1981 Caddy. Have had on luck anywhere. Even tried the UK and South Africa. Noticed in my search, the early Rabbit bumper ends looked a lot like the Caddy rear inner ends, only longer. Purchased a pair of Rabbit bumper ends. The Caddy ...

CoolAir, She is a minature long hair dachsund. We think she broke her back jumping off a wall in our back yard, but not sure what caused it. She had back surgery, but it didn't help. Doc said if she didn't learn to walk, she would only last 6 months, that was 9 years ago, still can't walk. She gets ...

Need one rear inner bumper cover for my 1981 VW pickup. See pic of the one I have. Think they are interchangable from side to side. I am missing the drivers side.

Is PM working??

Have sent several PMs in the last couple days, both are still in my outbox. Does that mean they did not go out, or is that normal? Thanks Kanzan

Take a look here: http://www.vwdieselparts.com/parts.htm I have the one marked 4 speed long $5.95. Either I have the wrong selector rod, or he has them marked wrong. Thanks Kanzan

VWCaddy, thanks for the quick reply. Can only see one bend in the Rear Selector rod, can't get a tape down there to measure it. Can see a tag on it with # 600 54009 589 on it. Can you tell from that if it is the wromg rod? Thanks, Kanzan

WHAT THE H**L!!! Just noticed while reading my Bentley for the 10th time. It says "Rear selector rod (Identification lug on 5-speed; bend in middle on 4speed)". I have a 5 speed, but my Rear selector rod has a bend in the middle. Does that mean I have the wrong Selector rod? I replaced all...

Wow, those are tiny splines!!! Worked on it Thursday evening. Thought I would test drive this morning. Guess what-- no reverse, can't even get it off the ramps. Guess I might have gone more then one spline. Will try again. Does it matter how far the Shift rod goes into the Selector lever? Weather is...

Finally got my 81 Caddy on the road, took a short trip today. Having trouble getting into 1st gear. About half the time, I am in reverse. All the other gears are fine. First and reverse seem very close together. Thought when I changed the gear oil to Redline MTL it might help, no difference. Was won...

We pulled the engine & trans from my 81 diesel pickup out the top. A couple extra hands sure helped push, pull, and turn to get it out. Went back in the same way. Worked great. Kanzan
