Re: How many amps to start these things?

But... Why move the battery? As we all know, these cars are not fast, but they can be quick. My truck is lowered and has wider tires and I love cornering in it. I have gotten a little addicted and am now seeing how well I can make it handle. I've made an upper strut bar, am going to make a lower ba...

Wish I knew how to determine my Rpm's.
Also wish I had some ice cream.

Re: How many amps to start these things?

Not a bad idea. Would probably mae the connection a bit stronger. Well I will try to remember to post my results, but it will probably have to wait till this weekend, as I will try and hold out to get a nice big fat wire. I know BMW's, newer Buick's, Older Audi's have a rear mounted Battery. Might h...

Re: How many amps to start these things?

You can always run parallel wires (like parallel 2ga) if you get the connectors that will accept both cable terminations, or connect them as best you can. Yeah, I was thinking that. I'll have to see if u have enough wire. Looks like the junkyards open on Friday so I may wait till then and just get ...

Re: How many amps to start these things?

Seems like I'll be borderline huh? I guess I'll give it a shot. I wanted to get a cable from something at the junkyard but find it difficult to get up there with work, and I'm impatient. I'll run the 2 gauge as short as possible. I grounded to the chassis at the large seat belt bolt. I'm hoping this ...

Re: How many amps to start these things?

Man I hope it's doable. I was just looking at charts that outlined the amperage drop over distance, as you were talking about and I had no idea what a difference it made. I have already mounted the battery behind the passenger seat in my truck, I think I can get away with a bit less than 10 ft. Righ...

How many amps to start these things?

I am relocating the battery and want to make sure I get a heavy enough gauge wire. I imagine between the high torque starter and the glow plugs being on, not to mention other things that could be on at the time, lights, blower motor, radio etc. it would be a decent amount.

Re: Alternator exciter wire question.

Welp, I figured it out. Get this! I tested the detached wire and there was no continuity to ground. The other night I misread it and thought there was so I hacked into the harness a bit, so after repairing all my screw ups, I continued. I inspected the cluster, no visible problems. I even threw anot...

Re: Alternator exciter wire question.

Well I took that info and messed around with it, I thought I had found a direct short to ground when I tested the plug in the cab, but between losing light outside and using a piece of crap voltmeter, I think I was fooled. I am going to borrow a good Fluke meter and hopefully get to the bottom of th...

Re: Alternator exciter wire question.

Man wish I knew about that regulator before. I just replaced one for a spare. Where do you get These one wire deals? So back to the light. My understanding us it connects the aLT. To s ground once it users a charge. The Bentley just shows the LED in line from the alternator to ground so I am a littl...

Alternator exciter wire question.

For a while, in order to get my caddy charging ie. cut off the red battery light, was to rev the motor to rediculous RPM. This is a pain, as I don't like doing it on a cold motor and there is a chance I can forget. I never reach this high of RPM while driving, so it hs to be purposefully. So I under...

Re: Think I'm sucking air from the gas tank.

You can get a Mity-Vac vacuum system for bleeding brakes to use for vacuum testing. That's what I use, however, when any fluid is involved, I always make sure the canister is in line so I don't suck fluids into the vacuum pump itself. Matter of fact, you can rig up any canister that can hold a vacu...

Re: Think I'm sucking air from the gas tank.

OK, here is where I'm at. I vacuum tested the fuel line from the pump to the tank, after I found a eak in the contraption I put on to catch the bubbles, the whole line was tight. So I put the vac gauge on the pump at the inlet and blocked the return. I was getting a vac loss, fairly quickly. Then I ...

Re: Think I'm sucking air from the gas tank.

I have not cleaned the screen. Do you get to that from the top? Seeings as it gushed out pretty good from the tank though, it seems the tank is pretty free. I still haven't got to mess with it since the other day. A lot going on. I wouldn't be surprised if it was one o those frustrating instances th...

Re: Think I'm sucking air from the gas tank.

From the first post: " I ran a short tube before the filter and stuck it in a little tank and ran the truck, no bubbles present, and finally I disconnected the nylon line from the rubber hose that connects it to the tank, put the nylon line into it's own tank and ran it, after the initial bit o...
