Re: volvo penta powerless

The cam timing actually does have some adjustment. The timing of the cam (in relation to both the crank and injection pump) is what is being talked about here. Maybe the cam is off by a bit, so the valve is opening (or still in the process of closing) much longer when the piston starts to build comp...

Re: 1982 rabbit ls deluxe 1.6d needs deisel friends

Congrats and welcome to the forum. Best advice I can say at this time is to buy an official Bentley Repair manual for your little buggy, and if you haven't inspected the timing belt yet, do that quickly. I would also replace the fuel filter, even if it looks new.

Rabbit Door Interchange and Alignment Issues

I have grown increasingly tired of the vent windows on ole 82 coming loose from the hinges, so today I decided to do something about it. I have a spare rabbit that has the bolted in vent windows in it out back, that just happens to be the same color. I've got the perfect donor car - right color, rig...

Re: Battery Alternator light

You may have an alternator going bad, but you could also have a wire that's developing a short. These are little rattle boxes, and wires do have issues from time to time as they flex. So each connection may be fine, but the issue may be be at location where the wire terminates to the connector as th...

Re: 1.6 Head question

If you're getting zero compression, my first area would be to look at the valves for that cylinder. Even bad rings, a cracked head or other things will register some compression. Zero means to me that the valves aren't closing properly. If you have bent valves and you rotate the engine with a wrench...

Re: Source for big rubber washers that go on motor mounts for 1.6L diesel engine?

Ole 82 has those big fat rubber pieces in one or more of it's engine mounts. It's been a while since I was working in this area, so I can't recollect 100%. I would venture to say that they are more for noise than for anything else, as the mount would go right through an 1/8" piece of rubber in ...

Re: MK1 200mm Clutch judder in first

I'm not a clutch/flywheel expert, but that flywheel looks like it's going to need to be professionally surfaced to remove the scarred area. That area will likely slip less or more than the rest of the surface area, likely giving a chattering clutch when you reassemble. I'd at least take it to a shop...

Re: WHat happened to this forum??

I've noticed that the activity on postings seems to go in spurts and dry spells from time to time. Don't know if it's migration by people to newer vehicles, to other sites, or just that people aren't necessarily having as many problems.

Re: Where do i find a 1981 Caddy spare wheel

Mk1 and Mk2 wheels should all fit your caddy, even if they are physically different (diameter, width etc). I will suggest that you compare the new wheel with your other wheels. Years ago I got a spare and when I got home, it physically looked different (the outside of the rim) and come to find out t...

Re: Where do i find a 1981 Caddy spare wheel

If you live in the rust belt, finding an older VW in a salvage yard is somewhat difficult, but if you live in the south or west, it should be fairly easy. Should be able to call around and find a wheel. Measure your center hub diameter and make sure the new rim has the 4x100bolt pattern and have the...

Re: anyone fix a worn out alternator

Sorry for the confusion, I guess you could call it the pivot bolt area. As for adding washers, I don't think I can do that. If I remember correctly, once side of the mounting flange is flat, and the other is conical shaped. This goes inside a convex area on the bracket. I've had to use a crow bar or...
