Mine was doing that when one of the IP bolts was missing, specifically the 4th bolt on the opposite end of the pump from the sprocket... Around idle it would get a good harmonic going! Hmm that could do it. Throbbing??? Sounds more like sobbing Hard to diagnose a sound over the interwebzz. Yeah, I ...

Throbbing engine sounds?

Bad injector? Maybe pump acting up? It goes WahWahWahWah at idle only. It sounds scary. 1.6D Thanks.

Yes, the two starters have the same solenoid, but the body on the diesel is much larger, maybe 2X the diameter to give greater hp as Rabbit-Man states. On the gasser starter the bracket is larger so that it does line up and can bolt on to the diesel. The gasser starter is much cheaper and some suppl...

There was an 80's Lincoln with a straight 6 diesel made by BMW. Apparently there are questions apparently whether the Doc actually did it or just bragged about doing it on his web page. In any case it probably didn't make very good diesel; the BBQ guy I used to get WVO from would sometimes add some ...

If you go that route the solenoids that go with the gasser and the diesel starters are equivalent although the starter bodies are not (diesels are much bigger). Unfortunately, the solenoid will cost you almost as much as a new/reman starter.

What about just replacing the stud or extending it? I think you'd find it a pain to rig a separate solenoid, with the proper connections to the brushes etc. It is pretty easy to work on the solenoid and test on the bench. The stud just has to make the connection. Just pull the starter and work on it...

Here in WA diesel has consistently been about $ 1.00 more than gas. $2.74 for diesel today. We have some of the highest gas prices.

Mpalm & 82 thanks for answering my query, I suspected bad bulbs, fuses are all good on the fuseblock and wires and grounds seem fine. I will take care of the voltage drop with the headlight relay VWCaddy makes one of these days, for now just trying to get out of the barn. It was just a substitut...

Thanks! I'm not sure which fuses you guys are referring to are there any in-line? Here's what I noticed with the lights last night. I have the type where the plug attachment to the back of the bulbs has 3 connectors: a top horizontal and a left and right vertical. One of the verticals is ground. Wit...

BuMp I'm back up and running :D. Thanks to those from the site who prodded me. I was really whining like a little bitch. I parked it for a couple weeks while I cooled down and pondered that the reason I was so pissed was that I really love/need the truck so I dismantled the dash and dug through all ...

The damage is worse than I thought. Glow plug relay lights work but no power to the plugs. The love affair is definitely over with this final straw. I can't deal with an electrical rats nest (don't have the time or skills). Can anyone tell me where I can find the famous Lorn on the web, he's in my t...

Okay that's scary MPalm, I should have disconnected the battery before I left it at home and came to work today. I've got an extinguisher but there's nobody home to use it. Yeah a new switch, but I get a headache just thinking about digging through that giant wire bundle. I'm teetering on the edge o...

Electrical fire

The pulling of my light switch was accompanied by a lot of smoke from under the dash yesterday. There have been weird things going on with the lights for a while now. One wire in particular burned up its coat, and I can trace it going into the big bundle just below the light switch behind the dash. ...
