FIXED!!! for sure! Took it out this afternoon and it did great. Only problem is the belts I got were almost all the wrong sizes so tomorrow I'll have to pick up the correct ones. Oh, I also broke the bolt that tightens the belt on the PS pump - luckily I have an extensive bolt assortment that surpas...

FIXED!?

Seems while I was wrenching around under the hood doing everything elseI "accidentally" knocked/broke the small blue wire off the alternator. Reattached and it seems to be going decent for now. I did just fully charge the battery too. About to go take it out for the afternoon (normal after...

Battery good - no start

Today I replaced my water pump, timing belt, idler, belts and who knows what else on my 91 ECOdiesel. ....what I also went to replace was my A/C condenser and receiver drier. A while back the receiver drier FELL OFF due to not being bolted to the condenser. I decided to give the job to my father whi...

Thanks. Took it for a hundred mile jaunt this afternoon/evening. The diesel fuel smell no longer gives my wife a headache which means I no longer have to listen to her whine about the smell. Oddly enough, whenever I had the "runaway" revving of the engine it actually busted the oil pressur...

Ditto for my '86 Jetta too. Only someone had the perfect timing of mowing their rocks in their front yard at the precise moment I was driving past, took out my headlight. Picked up a new set with those annoying blue bulbs that actually work great in the morning fog I drive through. Think I gave arou...

SOLVED!!!

I figured since I've found quite a few people have posted their problems and then never posted their solution I'd post my solution. First: STUPID DOUBLE STUPID forgetful me remembered that I when I marked with a Sharpie I marked IN ALIGNMENT with the screw slot on the shaft! DOH! Also there was qui...

Looks good so far. Hope you don't have any polymerization issues. Better yet I wish you luck in getting your valves sometime in '08. I may have to order some valve rebuild kits as I was running on veg when my timing skipped. Gut feeling tells me they are fried since they been setting for a few month...

Thanks - that's actually the thread I used to give me the faith to even tackle swapping the governor cover seal. I even caught the part about marking the shaft well. I "should of" used the paint marker I bought specifically for the job instead of the Sharpie. Better yet, I should of marked...

What I didn't mention too - I did even something stupider than above, I messed with the fuel screw.

Governor cover seal replaced - low idle now ***FIXED!!***

After MUCH research here (and lurking) I decided to tackle the leaks on my ECOdiesel. I started out by replacing the o-ring on the head and still had a leak. I finally was able to track it down to a noticeable leak from the governor cover. More researching here and saw that it "shouldn't" ...
