Heater

The heater works fine. Of course I have to open the valve by reaching over to it! The cable was broken when I bought the van. No sounds of bubbles or air when turned on and it gets nice and toasty.

Should be the same. I know there is someone out there that will know for sure but that's my guess for now.

Mercedes rims have the same bolt pattern. They also have different offsets depending on which rim you choose. Go through this thread and you'll know everything your were afraid to ask, and more! http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewto ... 32#1876732

Thanks Steve. The light always had a mind of it's own. It did the same thing before the starter work. I think you're right about a continuity issue. I was driving it today and in the morning for the first run it was flashing all the time from start up for ten miles. Stopped and went into a store. Re...

Thank you for the info. The new starter is working fine now. The Bendix drive was probably sleepy from sitting in a box! I put a new battery in for good measure as well. All is good for now. Thanks

Thanks for the info. I'll have to ad that to the list of issues. It's flashing all the time now. I put in a new starter because the old one was hanging up slightly. Well , at least it started the car! The new one just spins and doesn't engage. It started the engine one out of three tries though. Oh ...

If it's hard to start when warm I would guess it's the IP not producing the proper PSI. I hope I'm wrong. Good Luck

Temp warning light flashes intermittently on the 82 Westy

There are no coolant level sensors that I know of or can see. The van has always done this and now it's driving me crazy. We're about to take a long trip as well. Van temp runs normal (1/2 way). When you first start the light flashes (normal?) then stops. Then every once in a while when driving it w...

Coming in late here but..... If it ran before the timing work then you'll have to check your work again. Did it run before the work? I'm sorry if I missed it's running now. Starters don't crank as well when it's hot because heat creates resistance in the circuit. Starting issues after it's warm is j...

You'll need the Bentley manual or have someone do it for you. Someone who has done it before!

Placement of second battery on a Diesel Westy

I,m thinking of putting the second battery under the driver seat due to it's proximity to the galley and fuses. Is there any reason to put it under the passenger seat instead?

That's what I noticed most. The rattling of the non secured sheet metal back by the exhaust.

Wow, I thought it would make things quieter since the sound waves would be able to escape instead of bouncing off the cowl. I'll put it back and do a sound check. I'll let you know if I decide to chuck it. Thanks.

Removing Engine cowling. Do I really need to leave it on?

Is there really a good reason to leave all the sheet metal installed? It seems like every time I need to work on the engine I'm taking the pan off the bottom and putting it back on. Is there a good reason to keep it installed? It's rarely cold where I live so that would not be an issue. Thank You in...
