FS: 1.6 TD shortblock $100 picked up
1985 Quantum shortblock minus pan. 1.6TD mechanical lifter shortblock. So, pistons, rods, crank, piston coolers, and intermediate shaft. Before you get too excited... It's seized. The block was pulled about 8 years ago from a running Quantum that was hit. Then, it sat in barn in southern TN where wa...

Indeed it is. Why?
If you're thinking it requires a sooner TB service, that's not the case. OEM specs call for 80K service regardless of trans. I pulled the original belt at 89K, and it looked like new.

Re: Do NOT buy Continental parts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So, I'm still working thru the autopsy. The belt looped around itself at the crank sprocket and mushed out the lower timing cover. Worse yet, it cracked the alluminum seal carrier housing. It broke off the outer lip (no big deal), but it also cracked into the block. So, it looks like more fun. At th...

Re: Do NOT buy Continental parts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Same goes for Meyle inner CV boots. German name on the box, but when you open it up, it has a tiny China sticker on it. They will crack within 1000 miles and be completely shot within 7000. I put 100,000 mile originals back on and have no problems. Really sad about the junk being sold today. Yep. M...

Do NOT buy Continental parts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Here's a fun story. I purchased a Conti timing belt for a 2004 Golf TDI BEW engine code back in Jan 2009. I installed it, along with new INA rollers and a HEPU water pump on a friend's car: basically, all OEM or better than OEM quality parts. She drove the car for 3 years, and put 60K on the belt. T...

Wish I'd seen this before I shipped the servos today. I've got a couple of these kicking around.

That pic is of a 1.5 diesel. And trust me, you don't want that stamped steel piece of crap. You'll want one from a 1980-1984 Rabbit/Jetta.

If I come across any more, I'll update this thread. At the moment, I only have one, and it's slightly charred from low oil.

Re: C-c-cold f-f-fuel and Snow in Atlanta
I've noticed that when the water in my filter starts to freeze, I'll start sucking air, even though I have a resealed pump and new hoses all around. It will find a way.

I've got about a dozen of these. I compared to my 1.6 vacuum servos and canisters are the same. You just need to swap your rod setup.

Oh really? First I've heard of that. You say in a pinch because it's not an exact replacement and is different but will work orrr... because it cost $100 and he might be able to find a used one cheaper? I have heard of some of the stock 1.6 hydro cams chipping out,.. maybe just mexican made ones. I...

Re: Camshaft
In a pinch, a 1.9TDI camshaft will work too. Only the AHU or 1Z out of the B4 passat and MK3 Jetta/golf. You can get them new for about $100.
