As requested I've just taken a couple of pictures of the engine to help describe the setup. The first image shows the engine, the rear of the van is to the left of the image. The breather pipe from the plastic fitting on the valve cover connects to a plastic-cased valve that's fitted into the inlet ...

Hi Andrew The pipe from breather to valve definitely doesn't have a T-piece fitted, it connects the valve in the inlet manifold to the breather in the valve cover with no spurs. Unfortunately it's raining here at the moment and I don't have access to a garage so I'll need to wait until the weather p...

Well, the van's just come back from my mechanic with the problem seemingly resolved. He replaced a valve (about 5-6cm diameter) that fits into the inlet manifold, the other end attaches to the breather pipe that connects to the valve cover. I didn't ask him for details of his diagnosis, but could it...

Hi Michael Thanks for your reply. The engine that's currently fitted was supplied by a reconditioning firm and now has done only 125 miles since being fitted, so I hope that the bores and rings are all in good condition. Interesting that you should mention the PCV valve. The van's just come back fro...

Hehe, yes I did mean a flashlight - you're correct, and probably because of the fact that I'm still around to be able to post a follow-up to the forum. :D We thought that about 5 miles was enough to warm the engine up - indeed the coolant temperature gauge was sitting at its normal level, however I ...

I finally got around to having a further look into this and I'm still no closer to finding the answer. I got my friend to drive the van for about 5 miles (up and down hills to put the engine under load) whilst I stared through the open engine hatch with a torch looking out for leaks, all to no avail...

Thanks for your response. I've just been out to take another look and there does indeed appear to be a small pool of oil on the block adjacent to the vacuum pump and directly above the hole that the dipstick tube slots into. Unfortunately it's dark here now so I'll have a closer look tomorrow. Thank...

1.6TD T25 Engine Dumping Oil Under Load
Hi All I've got a 1986 UK T25 1.6TD that recently (150 miles ago) had a reconditioned engine fitted. The replacement engine was fitted due to ongoing overheating problems with the original engine that were never solved. The good news is that the overheating problem has now gone away, but a new probl...
