Re: Bizarre Vacuum Pump Damage - seizing I-shaft

I had the same problem you describe only I didn't run it 'til I lost oil pressure. A month or two ago I tried "upgrading" my rabbit to the vane style vac pump but I never got it to vacuum right and when I took the cover off there was aluminum filings inside it. The way it works is oil is p...

It sounds like the IP is fine. I wonder if the flywheel TDC mark is in the wrong place? The only way I know of to verify is remove the #1 injector and poke a thin piece of wire down the hole onto the piston top, put it at TDC and see if the mark is correct. That wouldn't explain why it wouldn't star...

I'm a little confused, you say you unhook the little injector to banjo hose and no fuel comes out. It doesn't come out anywhere? Or just the hose? It should come out the banjo. Make sure the IP timing gets reset right, some have got it 180 degrees out. And the fuel you get out the high pressure end ...

You should be able to push fuel through with little effort, on my rabbit I can unhook the return line and blow in it pressurizing the tank and fuel will spill from the where it was connected on the IP. I just tried it to make sure :D . Try removing the return banjo and cleaning it. It has a resticti...

That's weird, the link from my favorites doesn't work anymore and when I manually typed it in norton thought it blocked a threat and had me all worried. Thanks I'll try again.

You can fix/modify the switch by taking it apart and flipping the plastic "button" over, mine started flickering and that's what I did to fix it. The only problem is the backup lights blink when I shift into 5th gear. I also got some LED bulbs so the switch should never fry again.

The book says gasser rabbits hold 10 gallon and diesel's hold 11, I put 11.4G in one time. Just today I put in 11.065G. I also dribble in the last 2 gallons to top it off, one thing I've noticed is that if dribbled slow enough the foam will go away but it still goes down slow. I think it's a tank ve...

Re: eco head

So it may be a feat to bolt it to my block then? I know my head is mechanical. and I am about 70% sure it is 11mm. I can tap it to 12mm if needed unless there is some special diffrences in block (let me know if there is please) or use a stud kit? IIRC drilling the head bolt holes out to 12mm has be...

Re: 93 eco diesel perf rebuild

I am looking for ideas on what all cn be done to this motor when I rebuild it? I've done some high performance upgrades to other diesels in the past, but nothing this small! What year eco diesel do you have? and what is the part number on the head? I want to put an eco head and turbo on my caddy bu...

Not shutting off could be the plunger in the stop solenoid being stuck with vaseline. Why didn't you just stall it to shut it off.........auto tranny? If it's idling at the right speed and still smoking then your timing is most likely wrong and needs advanced. Also you should pop the valve cover and...

You can center the belt by lifting the high pressure end of the IP. That could mean loosening ALL of the IP bracket bolts, meaning the engine mount/IP mount plate and the "L" shaped bracket that braces the engine mount bracket. Play with 'em and try to get the sprocket end to tilt down and...

The valve needs to stay in the closed position, and stick up out of the retainer before the keepers can come out.

Once these old cars "gather" speed, they do maintain speed fairly well, unless you have decent size hills or any kind of substantial headwind. When I acquired my 82 from my father, it sure was frustrating to drive, because all the cars I owned up to that point would actually accelerate wh...

Yeah those vacuum pump delete things are rather expensive and very hard to find. Racers like 'em.

Maybe that was one that never had brake assist.

I've got a '80 gasser and it came factory without a coolant bottle.

I do like the breather hose.
