Re: Speedometer Gear

If you are losing this much gear lube, you ought to develop an interest in replacing the seals of that transmission.

Or, it may well be an issue of timing.

Re: Unstick pistons in Block that sat outside? How?

Yes, it is true that the Germans use a very slightly higher nickle content in their engine block cast iron. It is this higher nickle content which is responsible for the better wear qualities in the Kraut bores. Amazing....all this info is known and documented...and, yet, the American manufacturers ...

Re: WTB Intermediate shaft pully 1.6

Just lay the pulley (damaged side up) on a block of wood, take a small hammer and gently crack off the lip all the way around the wheel. Then, take a file and clean up the edge all the way around. DONE...no more drama. This way you will never find that the edge has managed to slice the belt apart an...

Re: 1.6 block

Dallas, I sent you a private message on Friday Feb. 25 regarding helping you to find an engine or a block from Rapid City.
Apparently, you have not found one yet? I sent my private email address to correspond.

Clutch tends to be reluctant/hesitant to release (dry splines)...causing more wear to your synchros......your choice, I guess.

I believe the only difference between a turbo crank and an n/a crank is how the counterweights are drilled out. A turbo crank is actually not as balanced as an n/a. It is purposely left out of balance in order to provide a small amount of inertia to keep that oil pump rotating for a few milliseconds...

Oh boy....here we go. Count to ten because this ain't going to make you happy. My Bentley sez 72 ft. pounds and nothing about additional quarter turns. I've always used new bolts and liberal amounts of blue Locktite....and no problems. Would I now use that crank? No. I would not trust those threads ...

Too bad you don't want to part with it.....yuk! I am soon to put one of these back in front of that K 24. Why? Because there is almost NO turbo lag when I use it. And, I really dig THAT! Now watch everyone tell how I will burn up my pistons due to the early fueling prior to boost....yawn. Been there...

THAT is a very nice pump. My most favorite model of n/a pump. I've got 4 of them and would gladly take this one off your hands. Originally on '86 Jettas and Golfs. Why do I like it? Because it runs better than others....that's why. It feeds fuel faster (picks up off the bottom-end better) and gets s...

In all honesty, I would strongly advise you to pull the engine this time and cut your Houdini-induced complications. Somewhere, you clearly got off-track. Remember, if you pulled the pressure plate, you should have replaced the clutch bolts with new bolts as they are torque-to-yield bolts. Also reme...

Why not remove the original pump...teach yourself how to reseal it....and put it back on and use it?
