Re: 1.6 NA BLUE smoke out the exhaust
Well, no. In around 1.5 million miles of driving these, I have never blown blue smoke. But, I have known guys who are not meticulous in: fitment/installation of rings, honing procedure of guides, installation of valve stem seals. So, perhaps, getting huffy at those attempting to help is not good pro...

Re: Gear engagement problem, Aut., Golf MK2
Governor (misspelled?). Added: within the bottom of the trans (in the pan) is a clean-able screen which you can carefully remove and wash in gasoline and replace. Renew the transmission pan gasket. Inspect fluid which comes out. Is it all atf? the problem with these trans is the seal between the atf...

You don't have a problem. This is how they are. If you want immediate engagement, put the damn thing in "D".

Re: Injector Pump: How to know if its time to rebuild
I also think Tyler is correct on that more complicated pre-heater fuel filter. Those are known to draw air if the hardware associated with it is not fresh. Additionally, does this car still have the big plastic water separator located under the passenger rear seat area under the car? They suck air h...

Re: IP Leak at Banjo Bolt?
Another alternative to the standard copper washers, are the Zexel (Japanese-made Bosch (I believe)) brand rubberized coated washers. I think the local diesel shops carry these. I used these back when I love/hated Mk. I cars. They worked very well for me.

Re: k-14 or k-24?
From my real-world use of both turbos in stock form: the K-14's benefit is well-gone by 3,000 (or even sooner) rpm. And when it signs off....it is annoyingly GONE. The stock K-24 is just beginning to live at 2,800 or even later. And the wait for THAT boost is damn annoying as well. You honestly have...

Re: 86 Golf Charging Issue
You can buy new brushes many places...hint. You can fairly easily replace the brushes with a soldering iron and some flux/solder. Just make sure you catch the old springs as they are released. Seems as though the springs do not commonly come with the brushes these days. You probably also need to ver...

Re: Winter Glow Plug Modification?
Why not just forego the relay and run the glow plugs with a push-button? I've done it a bunch and never regretted it. Just keep it fused.....no problems. I started the practice in late '79.

Re: '83 Caddy outer CV joint
It has been a long time since I owned stuff that old. But, as I recall, the earlier style joint also needs to go with the early axle. I am thinking the early joints has smaller diameter shaft size into the center of the joint. In other words, the early joints and axles are specific diameter-wise. I ...

Re: Vented Rotors
You need pads for a Rabbit GTI or Golf GTI/Jetta GLI.
Quite frankly, I don't see these ventilated discs as an "upgrade." I've actually removed them from cars due the much shorter life of the pads. Plus, the ventilation really doesn't amount to squat.

Re: Rubber brake hose lines
Gently use a propane torch right at the joint. Gently.
Let the heat soak in...maybe several times. Gently attempt to rotate while still good and warm.
Done it many times and never was a problem.

Re: Remanufatured Injection Pump Cold Start
The 081C pump was a pump which is commonly found on 1986 models. It is the pump I prefer....not due to the high idle capabilities....but, for the more robust bottom end.
And, yes, you can feel the difference in the two pumps.
