I was able to do a Comp test with the harbor freight tester and got: #1 - tested last, starter caught on fire....whole other issue #2 - 420 psi #3 - 460 psi #4 - 380 psi I know lower numbers is a bad thing, what is the target range to have? I changed the fuel out, still getting white smoke yet it seems to be going away a little by little. I have let the car sit for a week. I am wonding could the head have a crack in it and I am burning coolant? I was told that white smoke in a diesel is usually water (as opposed to oil in gasers). I re...

I opened her up today and looked under the cam cover, I saw a pool of oil sitting on the #3 lifter, could I have too much oil in the engine or is the lucus oil treatment stuff not good for these engines? I am going to drain the oil and replace even though there is about 1 hour on the engine since th...

I changed out the rest of the fuel lines and filled with new diesel. The car now starts and runs but is still showing white smoke....it does smell like oil (engine) as far as I can tell. There was some grey smoke in it when I gave it some throttle but that has cleared. To make things worse the dip s...

well I didn't think anything of it but I washed the motor with degreaser and the hose the other day. Could the white smoke be water? I also drained the most of the tank and when I had 5 gal of fuel in the container it was a very dark amber. Looks I should drop the tank and give a good cleaning. I al...

The timing belt is new and was done last month with no miles put on it (been doing body work). The diesel that is in the tank is what came with the car, I guess it is time to drain it and put in fresh stuff to see if that has anything to do with it. I added some diesel supplement a week ago but have...

running rough with white smoke.

I was running the car today in the drive way and it began to run rough and died. I tried to start it and got white/grey smoke it would turn over then die. Did a ring go? or could it be that the IP is dry/fuel filter clogged? I am guessing if it is white smoke it is burning oil (not a good thing). It...

windshield question

Will an 87 jett's windshield fit an 85 golf? I found the jetta in a junk yard when we were cutting cars up for training (fire dept) and the guy is practically going to give me parts off the car.

Thanks,

question about the "metal" lines. I am in the middle of changing out my lines with the goodyear brand and when I was connecting them to the "metal" lines I noticed that mine where flexible and seemed to be plastic. I intend to run BD100 eventually and I am wondering if these will...

hmm, I am new to the way diesels work....I know dumb question coming but, the IP pulls the fuel from the tank right and there is no fuel pump right? If so, then I have no idea why the guy I got the car from put the inline pump there. I have been able to start the car with out the pump on within 1 to...

Well I was able to find silver lacquer that was discontinued got a gallon for $10, but was told that it is alot of sanding. I was also told that it will stand up the best vs UV. The truck looks nice, I like the tent Idea, how much was the tent? I tired the $50 one on a spare fender, it didn't look b...

The replacement pump is on a switch that it can be shut off, the car will still run, I will try to see how long it will run without the pump on (I changed all the fuses so maybe the old pump is running again). Some of this car seems to be rigged in odd ways. The leak doesn't show up right away, just...

tightened, but still leaking, just ordered 12 new heat shields. I may just try to fix the old fuel pump and get rid of the aftermarket one. I will post a pic of it when I get back home(working now).

Repainting??

I am by no mean good at any of this stuff, but I am getting things done and the car is shaping up. I have fixed the rust around the windows and filled the dents in the car. I am looking to paint the car and I am wondering what is going to be be the best bet for a novice painter as far as paint/time/...

The leak seems to be right where they break apart and it is not a bubble but not a stream. It seems to do it after the pump/car has run for a bit. I will remove them and re torque them to see if that fixes the issue. If the pump is shut off the car will still run. Also is there an easy way to check ...
