Re: Pump not pumping?
Turned the pump all the way towards the head. No luck. I'll recharge the battery and maybe get stronger compression.

Re: Pump not pumping?
So this is my first pump rebuild. I'm pretty confident that I got everything back in there correctly. Having said that, I set the pump to .039 and still nothing. Just keeps cranking. I have the pedal to the floor, but am only getting a small amount of exhaust smoke. Advancing the timing means turnin...

Re: Pump not pumping?
OK, so, the pump is pumping and I have the block and cam set at tdc. I have set the pump at.036 in. The engine cranks but does not fire. I can tell it tries to fire a little bit but just cranks over and over? I'm also bottle feeding it straight to the pump and it's taking the fuel. What would you ch...

Re: Pump not pumping?
That's a good idea using that style socket. I carved out a 13mm 12 pt. socket and it just doesn't grab the bolt head well enough to turn it.

Re: Pump not pumping?
Also, does anyone know where to get one of the 3 sided sockets for removing the 3 sided bolts on each side of the injection pump? I can't find a tool like that anywhere but one source and they are out of them for months.

Re: Pump not pumping?
I did the whole, pull the solenoid with spring and plunger and still no fuel. My local diesel guy said I might have to flip the retaining plate in there. And after runnin the pump some more I noticed that it really is not pulling in any fuel.

Re: Pump not pumping?
Ok, so I have put the pump back together and reinstalled it on the car. There IS fuel flowing through it out of the "out" banjo while I spin it with a drill. Unfortunately I'm not getting any fuel to the injectors. Any ideas on that one?

Re: Pump not pumping?
Haha, yes indeed! That was the problem. I installed the retaining ring and the vane pump collar in 180 degrees off. Lol.

Re: Pump not pumping?
Yeah, I was afraid of that. I had a feeling I'd be tearing back into this pump.
Thanks TylerDurden!

Re: Pump not pumping?
Soooo, I'm finally getting back to this pump project. Here's a refresher on where I'm at with it. Pump is out of the car and on my bench. I connected everything up to it with the injectors just hanging from the injector lines. I connected the magnetic valve so it will stay on. My intention is to spi...

Re: Pump not pumping?
Faymobile, I haven't checked for current on the plugs. Good tip.
82vdub, Unfortunately this engine does not have a block heater. The glow plugs are new, but like Fatmobile said, the current could be low. I'll try to get some pics asap.

Re: Pump not pumping?
82vdub, my pulleys have a mark on both sides. I have a bentley, but i am having trouble with the dial gauge i have because it is imperial instead of metric. Shouldn't i be able to line all marks up and then hillbilly tune it? When everything is lined up, the engine just keeps cranking until the batt...

Re: Pump not pumping?
I have the cam locked with #1 lobes up and the block is at tdc. The pump sprocket has two holes, but only one timing notch. That is what i'm lining up with the mark on the pump bracket. I'm going to give it another go once the battery has charged back up.

Re: Pump not pumping?
This engine is a recent rebuild I did. It has new glow plugs, so i'll bet that the pump timing is off. 82vdub, if the pump is possibly off 180 degrees, would I just rotate the pump pulley 180? That throws off the timing marks then.
