Glow Plug Fuse

Glow plug fuse blew out. After testing for a short, I replaced it with my only spare. A few months later it blew too. Went to the local parts place and they don't even have a listing for them. Anyone know where they can be purchased? Got both leads on the same post for now but that is no way to be d...

Re: How to adjust the fuel screw

My own experience with adjusting the total load screw (which is limited) is that a very small adjustment makes a big difference. I adjusted mine for better mileage and got the most satisfactory results at about 1/4 turn out from stock.

Re: Broken Cam Bearing Cap?

I know these caps are line bored "in situ" at the time of manufacture and are not in theory interchangeable. I also know that they are probably close enough from one head to another that if I had a mountain of them I could probably find one that would work. I just don't have a mountain of ...

Broken Cam Bearing Cap?

Got a lovely heap of parts that include two dead 1.6 diesel engines w 12mm head bolts. The goal is/was to rebuild one to put in my Caddy when I restore it but there is a problem. Only one of the engines had a head. The head is in otherwise good shape but one of the cam bearing caps is broken. My gue...

Re: Eco Resurrection

What those guys said.

Because it has been sitting for so long I would also pull each glow plug and squirt in about 2 or 3 oz. of ATF in each cylinder before turning over several turns by hand.
If the cylinder walls have any lite rust this will help prevent you from trashing the rings.

Re: fuel efficiency conundrum

We don't live too far apart and the weather can be a major factor. Temp, humidity, wet/dry roadways can all have well over a 6% impact on fuel consumption. We have had a lot of dynamic conditions this spring to say the least.

Re: Tips for pulling and installing a windshield

Done a lot of Bug windshields and they are similar. Always used a box knife to cut the old rubber but being very careful and taking my time. To re-install, super clean the glass, it will never be easier. Install the rubber onto the glass and set it in the sun or somewhere warm for about an hour to m...

Re: Diesel Rabbit "snowmobile"

We got quite a bit of snow and a good hard freeze around Thanksgiving and I was amazed at how well my 81 Rabbit P/U handled it. When I bought the truck it came with another set of wheels w studded snow tires and they work like magic on this thing. There were lots of vehicles in the ditch all over th...

And don't just crank it to try and get it started if it has been sitting that long. Pull the injectors and squirt a couple of tablespoons of ATF into each cylinder, let it sit overnight and turn the engine over a few times by hand using a wrench on the front pulley. If everything is nice and smooth ...

I have an 11mm motor and have had nothing but joy with it. When I got it, it needed a head gasket and I was very, very careful about procedures when re-installing the new one. Top quality gasket. Super, super clean bolts and mating surfaces. Super clean block threads, threads chased, then cleaned ag...

What Dan said. It is critical to have then reamed and honed true and square so don't even try to do it by eye. Shouldn't cost much to have it done by a machine shop. Just be sure to take the wrist pins with you so they can size them to fit. Once done be sure not to mix and match them, i.e. keep the ...

I have the same set up and awhile ago the light seemed to be taking longer/higher revs than usual to go out. SHortly after the alt kicked the bucket. With the new alt thew light goes out at about 1500 rpm (est.) or after a min. or two. I suspect if yours is suddenly getting your attention it may be ...
