I backed the thing off almost an entire inch and still didn't see a seal.

Not much of one if any. The hydraulic pump reinstalled pretty flush up against the injection pump body though. Will it hurt anything if I leave it in there?

Thanks, that did the trick. The guy at the auto parts store didnt know what I was talking about at first bet then dug one up. Worked like a charm.
