stupid head bolt question

what size/type socket is needed on the head bolts? looks like a 12 point tork or star bit. I know there are a few different types of internal type bolt heads...it's a 1.6 diesel motor, not sure of the year. The head I got pull is not at home so I wanted to make sure I buy the right type bit before I...

sorry, you are gonna have to rebuild the motor to do the rings. not for an novice. if you have ever pulled, rebuilt and replaced a head then you can probably pull the motor and rebuild it too.

i think most block heaters are just aheated freeze plug. you could probably use one from an older VW and just find a convinient plug to pop out and stick the heater in.

a quart a tank is a lot. really a lot. yep, you got bad rings or very leaky valve seals...or a huge oil spot in the driveway. start planning a rebuild soon.

if the cam is pitted you will have to polish it or have it ground until it's smooth. I think it would have to be re-ground to maintain the correct profile since griding the cam will reduce it's size.

it you use it with rust pitts you are gonna have a very short life span on anything it touches.

My other cars got flooded yesterday so I'm busy with the shop vac sucking water...

any chance the block is OK and I just need a rebuilt head? I'm thinking the aluminum head failed and shut the engine down before the tougher iron would get damaged. It always had oil pressure. All the smoking was probably the leaking oil. ANd the head would go dry of coolant before the block. I gues...

I'll probably pull both motors from the top. but it will be a month before I can get to it. i'm gone the next 3 weekends. I hope this is a one weekend pull and replace deal. i'm tempted to put it on flea bay as a "parts car" project and see what interest there is. The body is straight and ...

the spare motor is in a MK2. Does that come out better thru the top? I need to pull that one first and get it ready to go in the MK1 caddy.
