Re: Looking into biodiesel - '91 Jetta
I have been running been running biodiesel in my '91 for years. Started on WVO 14 years ago, did that for a few years, then regular diesel for a few years, and now biodiesel for the past 5 years. Right now I have over 319,000 miles on the car. I have made my own BD and I now buy 100% BD from a local...

Source for Mk2 jetta water separator valve?
I'm looking for a replacement drain valve for the water separator unit (under the fuel tank). It snapped off in my hand while draining it today. Luckily it snapped when I tightened it, and not upon opening it.
Let me know if you have one or know where I can buy one, thanks

Re: Random hard starts mkII
Well it happened again today: Started normally after sitting for a week. Glow plug light came on for 5 seconds. Drove about 2 miles, parked for half an hour. Came back, no start. No glow plug light. Lots of cranking. Opened the hood, hooked a jumper wire up to a glow plug and directly battery for ab...

Random hard starts mkII
Engine history: Full rebuild 18,000 miles ago (over bored with new pistons & valve job) New glow plugs & wires installed at that time. This car will sit for 1-2 weeks at a time, I usually only drive it on weekends. The other day, after sitting for a week, it started normally in the morning. ...

Re: New Strut mounts, same problem. MK2
No, the MK2 strut mounts are different, but similar in design.
I did some research and found out about shaving the bushing. Since I have a lathe, it was easy. This has helped reduce the gap and tighten up the clunking sound, but still not as good as it should be.

Shave?
No, I simply removed the old mount and put the new ones on.
Are you talking about the threaded bushing/nut with the two notches that holds the assembly together?
Why would I have to shave it?

New Strut mounts, same problem. MK2
I've noticed a little rattle when I hit bumps, mostly noticeable at low speed. Discovered some play in the strut by grabbing and rocking the strut. Also noticed that the top cap of the strut is about 3/4" above the body. So I assumed bad strut mounts. When I had it apart, the new mounts appeare...

Re: Battery light on, but alternator OK
Well I started it again and tested voltage after cleaning all the wire terminals, this time it was 11.8 volts idling. So I had a spare reman alternator in my parts pile (brand new) and decided to swap it out. I had to change the pulley and bracket since it was from another model engine (maybe a gas ...

Battery light on, but alternator OK
Usually after starting I tap the accelerator pedal and the battery light goes out. Today it didn't. Took out the multimeter, checked voltage at idle 14.25v Shut off engine, battery voltage at 12.68v. Restart engine, same results. Bad ground wire? With the alternator putting out 14v, shouldn't the li...

FS: Veggie oil fuel kit
Kit was removed from a full size dodge pickup, but parts could be used in VW's or any other diesel.

Re: Getting a '90 Jetta running better
First off, you need to get rid of the air in the lines. It will never run right with air coming in. Occasional large bubbles are ok, but foamy soap bubble looking stuff will not run right. Hard to start often = air in pump Since there is a veggie kit installed, my guess is that it is sucking air. Ve...

Re: MK2 Diesel gauge cluster Questions
A mechanical head engine would be pre-1985, and the tranny probably is also, given that its a 4-speed. The Bentley manual has all the wiring diagrams. Im really not sure if the transmission matters regarding swapping speedo's. I do know they all use the same drive gear in the tranny, so any differen...

Re: MK2 Diesel gauge cluster Questions
I cant tell you much about the connectors and compatibility, but here is yet another version of the gauge cluster, from my 1991 jetta, no tach, no shift light. I would say find yourself a US cluster from a MK2. There are plenty of used VW parts places, and your likelihood of success would be greater...
