Re: Repairing starter - 81 Rabbit pick-up diesel

Thanks. No, am not trying the side ones; just the two that are on the big end of the unit. Chuck The starters are usually opened from the ends. If you are trying the screws on the sides, they are holding the windings and will not be much help. http://www.autoelectricsqld.com.au/wp-content/uploads/20...

Repairing starter - 81 Rabbit pick-up diesel

Has anyone in the past had to take the starter apart by removing the 2 big screw plug???
Mine, I have tried, but they are not easy to remove; used screw driver and gripping tool .... all without luck.

What did you do-use-etc.???
Thanks

Re: Lower belt cover help needed

BUMMER ! ! !

Just realized, after studying ETKA closer, that what I ordered is the gas version rather than diesel.
Have now cancelled it.

My goof.....

If by chance anyone knows of diesel version, sure would appreciate notice.

TIA

Re: Lower belt cover help needed

In trying to find information, read an old post (not here) that indicated removal of injection pump and all other nearby items; so thought I'd check first. If this is just the lower crank pully belt cover, it's a simple install, except for the removal of your Vbelts and lower pully. Otherwise, there...

Lower belt cover help needed

Just ordered a used lower belt cover for my 81 diesel pickup engine ... part number is 068 109 127A. See comments that removal, and related install (me), may be difficult. Has anyone any directions, etc. Of course I also need to order mounting 'goodies' also.... my unit missing when bought the truck...

Yeah, found those also ... plus an oval hole in the middle that I totally overlooked the other day. With the ones you came across, I tried a small screwdriver in both, and one closest to the hinges, seems to be blocked by the outer door part. The other one was able to insert the driver shaft all the...

Interestingly enough, just removed the drivers side panel a week or so ago to R&R the mirror. During that, in taking off the decrepid sheeting, decided to replace it. Used a shower curtain liner from Lowes ... but there are many other options just as good. At the same time, like suggested, got d...

Agree with former responder ... times 10. While the truck seems nice, if you are just beginning, slow down and look around some more. Yes, it is nice ... but AWFULLY HIGH ... IMO. The norm 'seems' to be in the 2-3K area ... and on your days off, if you are like most of us, you'll enjoy the pleasure ...

Got no usable response, so wound up making 2 small in length wire connections from male prongs to female openings. Not kosher for the rabbit ... but it works. But would prefer a usable switch....... You can fix/modify the switch by taking it apart and flipping the plastic "button" over, mi...
