Re: What's it Worth? 84 Jetta Turbo Diesel

Yep. Just did the re-ring since everything was still so close in tolerances. I understand it needs a lil work, but damn. I prob have 5 grand wrapped up in her. I was figuring at least 2-3k.

Re: Mystery Power Surge & Vaccum Question

No injection pump mods. Rebuilt to factory settings yet. BTW - She let me sit tonight. Going 50 lost all fuel. Turns out the pump solenoid wire broke. Rigged it to get me home. I'll replace the wire and connector this weekend, but maybe that was screwing with me too! The braking isnt spongy, or does...

Mystery Power Surge & Vaccum Question

Heidi Annes been running really well now, but i have noticed some inconsistent tiny power surges while driving with consistent rpm's/speed. Nothing huge, just tiny power INCREASES of maybe 50 rpm that last for anywhere from a half second to 1 second. Hard to dianose. She's a 84' 1.6 TD, 2,000 miles ...

Re: Another tach question

I love my Autometer Diesel Sport Comp Tach. It comes with the leads and pickup to wrap around your alternator, so you don't need a W terminal. Then just fire her up and calibrate it through the back. Done!

Ever had this happen? Belt Woes

Heidi Annes been running good lately with her new rebuild and new timing belt. The other day I started her up (it was 60 degrees outside), drove 300 yrds, pulled out onto the main road and stomped on it. The belt let out a huge SCREEEEETCH! Smoke started rolling out from under the hood. She smoked t...

Re: MASSIVE Blowby/Oil on new engine

Thanks guys. I installed the insert. I used a brand called Fix-A-Thread made by Alcoa fastening systems. I stacked 2 inserts in the hole. Torqued the head to 100 ft. lbs. Took it for a test drive and everything seems to be running good. Normal water temp. Even up the mountain it didnt get any hotter...

Re: MASSIVE Blowby/Oil on new engine

Update: Today I started putting her back together with the new head studs. Upon torquing them in stages, I was at 75 ft. lbs. when the last one pulled loose in the block threads. Oh the aggravation!!! This is the same location of the bolt that was extremely loose before, so I think I found the culpr...

Re: MASSIVE Blowby/Oil on new engine

Hopefully, from what I've been reading it seems like the stock stretch bolts are the weakest link.

New dumb question - Lug Bolt Threading?

What is the thread of a normal VW lug bolt for the wheels? I had one thread screw up, so I thought I would re-thread it with a die. A 12mm 1.50 doesn't exactly fit, neither does a 1.75. WTH. I'm really perplexed. LOL.

Re: MASSIVE Blowby/Oil on new engine

Ok. Thanks for the info man 53. Must be fun at 22 psi! Must be a hydraulic block too with a metal hg. I heard of guys converting a metal hg to operate on a mechanical block with cutting the other main oil passage off, but that sounds like alot of work. I'm set at 10psi for now, but would like to eve...

Re: MASSIVE Blowby/Oil on new engine

The stock vw head bolts and procedure is retarted. Even many VW diesel veterans I've been talking to have had past problems with them. I'll have to wait and see what the ARP's call for, but I thought I read in another forum that most guys were torquing them once to 110 ft. lbs. Then again, alot of t...

Re: should my intake have pressure?

Invest $60 and upgrade to the G60 rubber one piece valve cover gasket, studs, and nuts. Well worth the investment! Make sure your valve cover is straight too, and don't over torque it. Just snug it.

Re: exhaust volume?

While checking the gaskets, check your intake and exhaust mainfold bolts. I've had mine back out before and start leaking. These diesels are rattle traps and most bolts shake loose over time. I added either lock washers to all my bolts, or a combo of that and blue locktite, for particular areas, lik...
