Stick with the drums. I put quite a lot of research into discs but came to the same conclusion...not worth the hassle. The rear drums are upgrade-able though. 1. If you just want to re-seal the pump, it's pretty easy. Rebuilding it is a bit harder (I've done both) I can't say I'd recommend trying to rebuild one unless you have a spare (just in case). Either way, make darn sure you match-mark absolutely EVERYTHING when you tear down a pump. EVERYTHING!!! S...

I used a 90 amp alternator from an 86 Golf. It WILL fit, but you have to remove the condenser and it's tight.
