Re: 1982 1.6 Caddy - waterpump replacement
OK thanks. From what I read most people recommend replacing the pump with a new housing like you suggested. Sounds like removing the IP is the best way - maybe I will have the mechanic I use do it, he is good with these vintage diesels.

1982 1.6 Caddy - waterpump replacement
Hello VW diesel experts, My 1982 Caddy has a N/A 1.6 with A/C. The water pump is leaking and i am considering replacing it my self. I plan on buying a water pump with the housing from [removed by moderator] - unless you guys think there is better quality from another source. Can I replace the waterp...

Re: 81 Rabbit Wheel/Hubcap Advice
185/60 and 185/65 work on my 1982 caddy. I put photos of mine with 185/65 on front and 185/60 on rear. The silver steelies shown are from a 1991 Jetta, they were common on the MK2s.

Re: 81 Rabbit Wheel/Hubcap Advice
I run MK2 steel jetta wheels on my 82 rabbit pick up. They are 14" but have the same bolt pattern, they are silver painted with stamped holes. They are pretty robust as I drive a lot and they seem to not bend very easily. I think you can find them for sale on craigslist pretty reasonable. good ...

Heater blower motor noisy in 1982 rabbit pickup
I think the bearings in my blower motor are wearing out. The blower is very noisy at different speeds and it is getting very loud at times. Is it difficult to replace the blower motor? Thanks.

Re: New guy; pulling hair out
something you may want to check is my 1982 rabbit pick up started leaking rain water from the windshield onto my windshield wiper relay and causing the wipers to not turn off. Maybe your glow plug relay is getting wet and leaving glowplugs on and buring them out. Just a thought - my wiper relay was ...

82 vw rabbit pick up window wipers won'r turn off
Recently my window wipers were coming on and not shutting off. I pulled the relay and found it was dripping water, so it seems some rain water is shorting it out - trying to figure out where the leak is. I have read most common place is under windshield gasket pin hole rust starts to leak but have n...

Re: 1982 Caddy recently purchased - oil consumption
I changed my vacuum pump to a vane style. I just blocked off the breatther hose from the old diaphram style pump. My MK2's were all vane style with a solid block off plate at the engine block. I have read some guys "t" in the lower block breather hose to teh valve cover breather. Any thoug...

Re: 1982 Caddy recently purchased - oil consumption
not sure what rings he used but ironically he bought all his parts from here - from Jack. I have the reciepts and it says motor rebuild kit with .040 oversized pistons, so I guess they were good rings. He replaced nearly everything getting a rebuilt injector pump and rebuilt injectors all from Jack....
