Re: I'm Back!!
Well I can't put it off any longer, time to wire in the front lights. I didn't want to have the turn signal boxes so I wired up the fog lights to double as turn signals as well. I had to add an extra relay so that both sides wouldn't blink at the same time. Not sure how the current blinkers will han...

Re: I'm Back!!
Bumper: I decided to go ahead and build a matching bumper pair out of an old rusty pipe I had laying around. I wanted a look that would be, in my mind, a throw back to the mki'ish look. I think they will be pretty good for the price. http://i870.photobucket.com/albums/ab261/wshtfagentx/91%20Jetta/20...

Re: I'm Back!!
Yup, a little learning goes a long way. This is my 3rd paint job and I've gotten pretty consistent on my prep work. No orange peal or fish eyes. Just plenty dust and bugs. If you want show quality, you really need to make yourself a very clean paint room. The sprayer can kick up dust from walls, cei...

Re: I'm Back!!
Your right. I did paint outside. The answer is I don't. There is plenty dust and bugs in my paint job. I live in the country and I drive on dirt roads half of the time. My car is ALWAYS covered in dust and mud, so why stress about a little in the paint. Know one will ever know. Seriously. If you are...

I'm Back!!
Hello all yall greasy VW suckers.. ;) I'm back to working on my VWs. Here is my latest project. Here in the rust belt, the 89 Jetta I was driving was like a piece of swiss cheese on wheels. I confiscated my dads 91 that my sister had run without coolant. Pulled the overheated engine and power steeri...

Re: IP empties upon shutdown
The problem was that the replacement fuel lines ID was two narrow causing the restriction that you predicted. The restriction (I'm assuming) caused the IP to suck air past the shaft seal or inlet banjo or something. Now I'm trying to sort out the cooling fan wiring. The wiring was cut and spliced an...

Re: IP empties upon shutdown
OK! So you guys are my personal heroes of the week. Very good tips and advice. Been reading many posts and learning lots. So, based on your advice I reconsidered the fuel line I had run and upped it to 5/16", and switched out the IP inlet banjo to one with a 5/16" barb. And like magic, the...

Re: IP empties upon shutdown
Thank you both for the ideas. The 'check valve and fuel/water separator from beneath the car' are already out of the picture. The clear (opaque) line is that hard stuff like OEM so collapsing isn't an issue. I will check the pickup for clogs or cracks. I'll try and thread a vacuum gauge into the fue...

IP empties upon shutdown
Hi, I just got a 1989 1.6IDI Jetta. Just replaced the head gasket. Now when I shut the engine off the fuel line to the IP completely empty out immediately. Of course with all that air, its a hard restart. I am guessing that either: 1. the pump was full of foam and then fills with fuel. 2. the fuel i...
