Re: 91 jetta ac condenser replacement

it is rather easy work once you get into it and poke around. take off the front end in little time and you have all the room to work with. having messed with these air conditioners if my ac had been working many years and you are just replacing the condensor because of a leak, i would be breaking do...

Re: 86 VW Jetta Diesel - Fuel pump location?

the fuel pump is the injection pump mounted at the top of engine towards front of car. it turns with the timing belt. the pump has a wire that on ignition opens the valve it connects to so fuel can pass through. clear hoses and jugs on in/out lines can tell you what the car is doing, hang the inlet ...

Re: How hard can you push a 1.6 NA?

not sure what the difference would be between beating on a non and turbo models but i can tell you that i beat on numerous cars with these engines and a turbo. one had a turbo slapped on non turbo block. i daily drove them 160 miles/day for work almost all highway and i never had to get a tow :) had...

Re: Tracking Down Injection Pump Reseal kit

does the 121 kit work for a rover 300 pump and is that what the larger mainshaft seal is for? years ago after 2 running leakers on my first vw diesels i bought an ebay video on resealing pump. i was scared but it ended up being easy. i did it without a vise but that would be very handy to have it an...

Re: How mutch does your car smoke?

left and out decreases fuel. maybe you aren't noticing performance decrease since you are non turbo along with your driving route/style. i won't drive non turbos anymore since they are a safety hazard on our freeways. 1/4 turn out in my experience on my cars was no good. i was driving a route where ...

Re: Loud, smelly, and rough idling after IP replacement

If it worked fine before sounds like maybe the gage isn't being read right or did somebody mess with the timing belt? Is the cam and crank in time? If I have to take an ip off I leave the sprocket/pin on and pin with clamps the belt to each area so that it doesn't jumps off the crank or cam, etc. Th...

i drive the hell out if it pretty much all the time. my freeway runs in the am have me in the fast lane going 85-90mph for long stretches.

oh gosh i can't wait until i get healthy and can do a tdi swap, i am sick of this car :)

Re: I am about ready to give up on Jetta timing belt

did you read my last post and follow through?

doesn't sound like a problem with the im shaft to me. they ride up/down on the bearings. at the drivers side of the engine a big gear mates to the vacuum pump so it rocks a little bit in/out.

Re: How mutch does your car smoke?

I don't even mess with old injectors anymore and have started fresh with each car I turned into a daily driver. My last project getting my turbo truck on the road I accidentally got rid of the wrong set and had set the timing by the book and all seemed well on the driveway. When I got out on the roa...

Re: 81 Diesel Dasher- Smoking and rough start

I learned my lesson with injectors. I had a couple old used cars getting good mileage smoke pretty good. I tried advancing away the smoke but it just got louder. Last try was with turbo truck. I think I mixed up a set of injectors I sold and went out on a test drive. I was smoking people out behind ...

Re: How mutch does your car smoke?

None of my cars come close stock to the buses, industrial equipment so I don't worry about it. Mine put out a little puff on a cold start but then run smooth. I pound on my 79 rabbit 1.6td and I don't see any clouds behind me. I guess I would have to follow it to see if there is a faint haze. I have...

Re: Brake advice

I think your lines will tell you so definately look at the routing. I think I got lucky, my 79 has the same routed lines as 82 jetta did so the hard lines mated up as well as with the goofy pressure type brake light switch.
